And I guess they had to have a shorter version of that scene in DoS when the actual flashback was delegated to AUJ instead of Beorn's house.

Sort of like the Battle of "Dagorlad" was split up, between the Prologue, and Elrond's House.

Yeah. First giving the backstory in full and then referencing it later from a different perspective. I hope most of the audience remembers the battle from the first film. ;)

Argh, but The Battle of Azanulbizar is one of the weakest parts of the film. Everything looked so terribly...fake. It's a pity we'll be seeing more of that...

I thought that was Dale.. ;)

Not my fault that there just happens to be a lot of weak parts... :P

Off the top of my head, I think the prologue, Battle of Azanulbizar and a lot of the Azog sequences can be classified as "the weakest parts of the film".

I feel like PJ knew some visuals weren't great and will improve them in DOS.

Judging by the recent trailers everything looks better.

Andy Serkis directed the Battle of Azanulbizar sequence, which was apparently an arduous shoot in all respects.

No, they are just going to digitally blow up McKellen, over top of himself.

What did poor Sir Mckellen do to deserve to be blown up? :o

I thought the couldn't use forced perspective because of 3D?

It looks like Thorin is sitting on a much smaller chair or something.

Or it could be a scale double.

Well on the Appendices for AUJ they said they couldn't use FP this time around because the 3D would give it away as you'd see the break.

Yeah SafeUnderhill you're argument kind of falls apart because of that. If you watch the documentaries they say they can't do it in 3D.

When you postconvert from 2D it works because the 2D image doesn't have the break. It's just simply not there (this is why LOTR can be converted) but when you film it the break is there and is very obvious and they wouldn't be able to cover it up. If they could they would have done it.

They can remove loads of green spots on video from locations, they can do lots of CGI work, it would surely be possible to alter the table images in the right and left images so they blend together to a 3D image.

It would be rather time consuming but so would converting 2D video to 3D video.

I think you need to see the documentaries.

SUH,they aren't converting anything. All the films were shot using 3D cameras, making it impossible to do forced perspective.

A palantir is a dangerous tool. He shouldn't have used it. Clearly messed up his brain.

It thought it was the Halfling's leaf.

You should watch all the documentaries SUH.

And watching that part actually made me appreciate it less, because it was clearly meant to be a fleeting moment in the prologue, but PJ's natural instinct for excess clearly prevailed in the end.

I think showing the battle was a great idea, the execution is just lacking in scope and correct feel in my opinion.
