Treat 0
Does anyone know what software JW uses to compose, also does anyone know what type of samples he uses.thanks
Josh500 1,615
Yeah I know! He uses a software which is called a pen, a piano, and paper. LOL No, seriously, I don't think he uses any software at all. He is the "old-fashioned" type!
Treat 0
i thought soo too but i thought heard he used Sonar 5, Finale, and VSL but i guess its Myth.
robthehand 3
I can imagine Williams not having a clue how to use composing software.
Josh500 1,615
Why should he start using a software now that he's in his seventies? He's worked all his life without a computer!
Damo 0
He's worked all his life without a computer! That exactly proves the point that he doesn't need to use or start using computers. He is perfectly just as good without one.
Richard Penna 3,685
Kind of like asking how many pencils Zimmer and the team got through writing Pirates
Ollie 1,059
Williams still does it the old fashioned way.

Joe Brausam 214
Well I believe Finale is used to engrave his music for recording, or at least thats what finale sort of says. The advertisement says that it was used to "compose the music for popular films such as ...Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban."
John Crichton 4
I doubt Williams even knows how to use a computer.

Ollie 1,059
I doubt Williams even knows how to use a computer.I get that impression as well. But by God if I can teach my mom how to use the internet there's hope for Williams.

Red 75
I think that it is pretty obvious that Williams doesn't (and hasn't) need a computer to write his music.
Docteur Qui 1,544
I remember this came up about a year ago.The professional scores may have peen transcribed and orchestrated using the Finale software, but the composing is 3 Ps (pen, paper, piano) and Williams. Joe Brausam 214
Yeah, thats what I had meant. Finale, Sibellius or some other software is used to engrave the score to be performed.
Frosty 0
Who do you think Williams consults when he want to use some synths in his scores? I know he used some synths in Phantom Menace to bring out the woodwinds a bit, and some other scores like Heartbeeps.
BLUMENKOHL 1,068
So was Goldsmith, but he used PCs to help him.Goldsmith used a mac. Datameister 2,042
In the case of John Williams, engraving in Finale is the orchestrators' job. Some composers like to work directly in an engraving program, but the perks of working that way aren't huge--especially if you've got one or more underlings hired to engrave all your work.
