Years ago I wrote a song called No More Lies. It was recorded by talented singer Ralph Drijver who was at one time a contestent on the "notorious" SoundmixShow.

I've uploaded it recently and was wondering if you guys like it (or not...)

Here it is:

Personally; I'm very fond of the key shift near the end (03:47), and, in particular, the counter melody in the vocals. I love that part and have to give credit to Ralph for his fantastic singing.

My only critique is in the mix.

The vocals have so much room to them, that the synth piano sounds... awkward...

Past that I enjoy the song. The background vocals are a nice touch.

I can hear how it would sound if it were a true chamber group and It would sound really nice. Are you familiar with Russel Watson? It reminds me of him for some reason...

It does seem to be a little on the slow side. Would you be against maybe speeding the tempo up...eaither from the beginning or during the piece?

Cool song though ;-)

Actually; we did record a much more up-tempo version of the song with a real band. :)

I will post it soon. It was sung by Ralph also.

The one posted in the thread opener is really just a demo.

But thanks for the feedback! :)

I've been dying to hear The Inner Light.

The song is rather good, though it could have used a real piano instead of an electronic one.

It's depressed me though, now I'll need to get through a bottle of apple cider to make it trough tonight.

Thanks a bunch Roald. :)

Roald, I'm not going to comment on the song much,(It's weak and I dont like the lyrics..)

But if you presenting this as a demo, or will use it as such, It should be mixed with the piano in stereo and the vocal in the center.

It's weak and I dont like the lyrics..

Considering your "negative attitude" lately ("the world is passing away, there is no good anymore, etc."), I'm not particularly affected by your comments on my song.

About the mix: it's a fairly simple mix made on a Roland V6, so don't expect anything too fancy.

Well that's too bad if you don't take my comment seriously. You see I am comparing your song to things like Kelly Clarkson Behind these hazel eyes, or Vanessa Carlton's A thousand miles.

I wouldn't feel right telling someone their song is really good when I don't believe it. Your song is not without merit, but it is not, in my opinion, finished.

Now we're talking! :P And I agree; it is not finished. I was hoping for some insightful feedback on the direction I should take the arrangment or possible chord changes. The way the chorus wraps up is a thing I was never really satisfied with in the first place.

I’ve been alive forever,

And I wrote the very first song.

I put the words and the melodies together,

I am music,

And I write the songs.

I write the songs that make the whole world sing.

I write the songs of love and special thing s.

I write the songs that make the young girls cry.

I write the songs, I write the songs.

My home lies deep within you,

And I’ve got my own place in your sole.

Now, when I look out through your eyes,

I’m you’g again, even though I’m very old.

Chorus

Oh my music makes you dance

And gives your spirit to take a chance,

And I wrote some rock ’n’ roll so you can move.

Music fills your heart,

Well, that’s a real fine place to start.

It’s from me it’s for you,

It’s from you, it’s from me,

It’s a world wide symphony.

Chorus

I am music, and I write the songs.

Not in the summer of 79 when you're an 11 year old traveling most of the summer in a car with it on a continuous loop, hearing Barry's greates hits every two hours, not to mention Abba, Country & Western and any other horrors your parents might throw at you.........

ahh Abba, great great stuff there.

I agree.

Abba made the blueprints for how to make a perfect pop album. Any music producer who is worth his salt would study Abba songs.

Were's The Inner Light that I was promised?

I know, I know. The problem is that the only decent recording is on VHS and I need to transfer the VHS audio to some kind of digital format. Not forgetting though...
