I need some advice about Ennio Morricone scores...

This morning I decided I'd play a few CDs that I hadn't played for a long time - all by Ennio Morricone - The Good the Bad and the Ugly, The Untouchables and Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone.

It never ceases to amaze me how much I love this guy's music - and at the same time, how little I know of it. As well as the above three, I have A Fistful of Dollars, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Mission, Il Mercenario, Navajo Joe, Fateless and Cinema Paradiso. That's ten scores, but only a small fraction of his total output (400+). I desperately want to expand my Ennio Morricone collection. At the moment I'm looking at Exorcist II - The Heretic and the newly-released FSM CD of Guns for San Sebastian.

What are some other Morricone must-haves? It's an extremely daunting dask looking through his filmography, so I'd appreciate any advice. :)

I'm too fond of Morricone but The Untouchables, Once Upon A Time In America, The Mission and Mission To Mars would be some others.

I got this, supposudly, incredible fan made collection of Morricone music not so long ago. It spans 4 discs and covers most genres of Morricone music out there.......

I never got into it. There is something about the music that I cannot dig.

I am a fan Morricone, but I don't think that he is in the same league as Williams. Then again, not many people are.

Who´s going to the London Concert?

He's coming to Santander first (a city close to Bilbao, as you must know, Romao), on November 10th. I'm really eager to see him live :)

I think he's as good as John Williams as a film composer. However, his music alone can't stand comparison to Williams' grandeur.

Yet he's the best after Johnny nowadays.

Must haves:

Once Upon A Time In The West

Once Upon A Time In America

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

The Untouchables

The Mission (his best score...)

Casualties Of War

I Promessi Sposi

And too many others. This is just from the top of my head...

I have A Fistful of Dollars, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Mission, Il Mercenario, Navajo Joe, Fateless and Cinema Paradiso.

Since you seem to dig his westerns, so get 'LA RESA DEI CONTI'!!. 'Vamos á Matar, Companeros', 'My name is Nobody', 'Nobody is the Greatest', 'Two Mules for Sister Sarah'

For the epic stuff, get 'Marco Polo' before 'Nostromo', which both kick serious ass. 'La Venexiana' has a very sad and melancholic choral score, a lot of people like 'La Tenda Rossa' (The Red Tent) and 'The Lady Caliph'. 'Secret of the Sahara', then...and, and, and.... :)
