Marc Shaiman

Again, 3 years ago, I had zero CD of Marc Shaiman in my collection.

Now I think I have a nice basic collection.

@Jay You need to watch the first two Addams Family movies if you want to understand the tone of the scores. We are in the domain of dark humor here and you need to understand the wonderfull cliché and passionate and old fashioned love between Gomez and Morticia. The score helps a lot to highlight this passionate love.

La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures proudly present a remastered and expanded CD release of renowned composer Marc Shaiman’s (CITY SLICKERS, THE ADDAMS FAMILY, HAIRSPRAY: THE MUSICAL) original motion picture score to the 1996 big screen comedy hit THE FIRST WIVES CLUB, starring Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton, and directed by Hugh Wilson. Composer Shaiman’s rousing and Oscar-nominated orchestral score is a thematically rich and joyous affair with a New York City musical flourish – highlighting the film’s spirited comedy while never forgetting to dramatically anchor the story’s moments of pathos and import amongst the laughter. Remastered and expanded with previously unreleased music, this limited edition CD release of 1000 units is produced by Dan Goldwasser, mastered by Doug Schwartz, and the exclusive, in-depth liner notes are by writer Daniel Schweiger, featuring new interview comments from the composer! The sharp art design is by Dan Goldwasser.

I'm still not sure I need this because I have the OST.

But if you don't already own the OST, this score is a MUST HAVE. It's an essential entry in Shaiman's discography.

So glad they didn't follow their Beavis & Butt-Head Do America assembly style here, presenting the OST intact and stitch unreleased cues together and add them at the end. However, they did some re-ordering:

"02. Annie" consists of two cues, divided by the first half of "03. Elise". Then comes "06. Bad News". After a source cue, "05A. Lithium?" follows. Then comes the second part of "03. Elise". Followed by "05B. Brenda Insulted", "04. Brenda", another source cue and finally "07. He Has Reprioritized". It's pretty much in order after that.
