I have only listened to it from front to end once, but it did not live up to what I had been told about it. It's not bad at all, mind you. But like Steef said, it is merely... good.

That's my first impression, anyway. Although again, I don't mean that in a negative way.

- Marc, who seems to have a looong "to listen" list these days.

One of the biggest reasons it is a masterpiece is because it is a score to a style of film that is often accompanied by boring suspense and brooding music. But it's not boring. It maintains subtlty and darkness and is still interesting.

I find it to be on par with TWOK, but because I have a natural tendency towards darker music, I prefer it over TWOK.

I bet neither of you find Thirteen Days by Trevor Jones to be amazing either. :sigh: Matter of taste.

I know about that missing cue. I'm not to terribly annoyed by it. I think though it might have been tracked from an alternate cue of the Opening Titles, which is the only missing alternate cue that I do not have.

Man, you all are supposed to be telling me about this stuff.

I feel like I'm late to the party. ;)

What other unreleased scores do you all have hidden from me? A complete Wrath of Khan? The Final Frontier maybe? Generations?

I hope eventually they do turn up though.

I love Star Trek VI, but it's definitely darker, so many won't consider it a Masterpiece. I don't, but it's a damn good score. The only downside is that the "alternates" of the Battle For Peace are identical, except for maybe a second of strings or something at the very beginning. THe complete score doesn't add all that much to it, but it definitely doesn't hurt!

Most of these are bootlegs of "newer" Goldsmith scores.

It's not that, it's just that it's not good enough, not substantial, profound or exciting enough to deserve the term masterpiece.

It's a good score, for a good film.

THE END.

To each his own. I suppose.

As far as unreleased scores, one of my greatest regrets in my soundtrack life is my loss of the Voyager Scorpion CD, from 1999. It was from the man Jay Chattaway himself.

;) <- What I want to do everytime I remember.

you had that score...on CD?

and you lost it?

No...NOOOOOOOO...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Didn't you make a copy of it or something?

I've wanted that for years.

This was back before I was endowed with my first CD burner. Lost it in between a move to a new house. It, along with my Glory CD became a victim of not following the "FRAGILE" warning. ;)

Like I said, it's one of those things that still makes me feel rage and sadness when I'm reminded.

Saddest part of all? I only enjoyed it for 3 months.

Did you look for it?

I mean...really look for it?

BTW, was this for part 1 and 2?

Oh I found it...it was just...in a couple of pieces. ;)

And yes it was parts I and II.

Is there any way you could contact Jay Chattaway again and try to get another copy? Just explain your situation....

I've tried. He's fallen off the face of the earth. I originally got his e-mail/AOL screen name from Ron Moore when he used to hang around the AOL messageboards and talked on IM as "rondmoore."

A complete Wrath of Khan?  The Final Frontier maybe?  Generations?

None of these are currently out there, available to any of us.

Sadly.

Am I the only one who wants the cue when The Enterprise is blowing the shit out of The Reliant in the nebula? That's an awesome cue.

A complete Star Trek II and III would probably be on most people's wish list. I would love to ave the unreleased Genesis material from III.

A question- I have all the ST scores, and like most of them, but I have no idea what you're talking about with these unreleased cues. What does that makes me (Aside from numbnuts, naturally)- a bad Trekkie, or not a Trekkie at all, just a dude who kind of likes ST and likes ST score a lot?

Hey, I didnt' notice the unreleased stuff in particular during the film. I got the bootleg since people told me how good it was....I don't have much specific insentive to listen to, as I don't know what to expect. Feel free to recommend me a couple of unreleased cues worth checking out, maybe they'll get me into the score.
