#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
So it's finally come out, has it.Got this a while ago. It's a good bootleg. But it's doesn't make me feel any differently about the score, which is hailed by some as a masterpiece, but is merely....good. #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
I'm not gonna share that piece of info.
Mr. Breathmask 480
I have only listened to it from front to end once, but it did not live up to what I had been told about it. It's not bad at all, mind you. But like Steef said, it is merely... good. That's my first impression, anyway. Although again, I don't mean that in a negative way.- Marc, who seems to have a looong "to listen" list these days.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
As a listening experience it's trashed by James Horner's Trek score for the same director.
Mr. Breathmask 480
Definitely. But I think a lot of scores would get trashed by TWOK.- Marc, who needs to get Horner's Trek III.
BLUMENKOHL 1,064
One of the biggest reasons it is a masterpiece is because it is a score to a style of film that is often accompanied by boring suspense and brooding music. But it's not boring. It maintains subtlty and darkness and is still interesting. I find it to be on par with TWOK, but because I have a natural tendency towards darker music, I prefer it over TWOK.I bet neither of you find Thirteen Days by Trevor Jones to be amazing either. Matter of taste.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
It's more conventional then TWOK, and doesn't have the excitement of that score. The Battle For Peace is good, but it's no were near as breathtaking as Battle In The Mutara Nebula. BLUMENKOHL 1,064
Well of course comparing Prokofiev to a 26 year old Eidelman is unfair.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
Didn't Eidelman "find inspiration" from The Planets and Stravinski?
Marian Schedenig 5,520
The opening rhythm is from Mars, and the arpeggio in the same cue is the inverted arpeggio from Stravinsky's Firebird, but that's about it I think.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
Well there you go.Also, this bootleg is not actually complete. It is missing the music were the Enterprise crew are turning the ship inside out, looking for gravity boots. So Vosk will be annoyed with this.
Trent B 317
I know about that missing cue. I'm not to terribly annoyed by it. I think though it might have been tracked from an alternate cue of the Opening Titles, which is the only missing alternate cue that I do not have. BLUMENKOHL 1,064
Man, you all are supposed to be telling me about this stuff. I feel like I'm late to the party. What other unreleased scores do you all have hidden from me? A complete Wrath of Khan? The Final Frontier maybe? Generations?
Mr. Breathmask 480
Oh, not much. Just some 1984 Williams score labeled Indy 2. Whatever the hell that is. Haven't listened to it yet.- Marc, who's quite aware that isn't actually funny at all.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
A complete Wrath of Khan? Â The Final Frontier maybe? Â Generations?None of these are currently out there, available to any of us.Sadly.
Vaderbait1 1
I hope eventually they do turn up though.I love Star Trek VI, but it's definitely darker, so many won't consider it a Masterpiece. I don't, but it's a damn good score. The only downside is that the "alternates" of the Battle For Peace are identical, except for maybe a second of strings or something at the very beginning. THe complete score doesn't add all that much to it, but it definitely doesn't hurt!
Ollie 859
I'm suprised Star Trek V isn't available considering the amount of Goldsmith bootlegs that are out there.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
Most of these are bootlegs of "newer" Goldsmith scores.I hope eventually they do turn up though.I love Star Trek VI, but it's definitely darker, so many won't consider it a Masterpiece. I don't, but it's a damn good score. Â It's not that, it's just that it's not good enough, not substantial, profound or exciting enough to deserve the term masterpiece. It's a good score, for a good film.THE END. BLUMENKOHL 1,064
To each his own. I suppose. As far as unreleased scores, one of my greatest regrets in my soundtrack life is my loss of the Voyager Scorpion CD, from 1999. It was from the man Jay Chattaway himself. <- What I want to do everytime I remember.

BLUMENKOHL 1,064
This was back before I was endowed with my first CD burner. Lost it in between a move to a new house. It, along with my Glory CD became a victim of not following the "FRAGILE" warning. Like I said, it's one of those things that still makes me feel rage and sadness when I'm reminded.Saddest part of all? I only enjoyed it for 3 months. I got the bootleg since people told me how good it was....I don't have much specific insentive to listen to, as I don't know what to expect.
