Goldsmith's Capricorn One

I saw the film Capricorn One again on television earlier this week and was very impressed by Goldsmith's music and am seriously considering getting the score on CD. It's funny, though. John Williams has, up until now, been the only composer of film music I have followed, and certainly the only film composer whose music I would automatically buy. So I feel sort of strange buying Goldsmith. Like I'm taking a mistress or something.

Should I get over it?

Of course you should get over it. It's Jerry Goldsmith, for crying out loud!

Good luck getting the score, though. Intrada released this a while back, but it has long sold out. Looks like a trip to eBay.

The Intrada version is the actual score from the film. It was limited to 3000 copies as sold out quickly. Goldsmith did a re-recording that was paired with Outland and released by GNP Crescendo that was released earlier but I believe that one is out of print as well.

However Outland and the re-recorded Capricorn One were re-issued on seperate CDs, imports I believe, so you might be able to find it that way at a cheaper price.

If you can get both I would recommend it because they make nice companion pieces.

...but then you don't get the jewel case, which can be annoying if you like the original cases for everything. There are a couple of CDs I have without the jewel cases, I barely concider them in my collection, as I can't see them on my shelf (and don't want to improvise one).

It's not the fact that I can't put it alongside the other CDs that bothers me - it's the fact that I always forget I have it. I nearly bought a CD of Schindler's List a while ago, forgetting that I already had it as part of the deluxe DVD box set. banghead

iTunes goes some way to resolving that, but I still try and avoid those DVD+CD boxes now.
