nicholas 1
I saw the film Capricorn One again on television earlier this week and was very impressed by Goldsmith's music and am seriously considering getting the score on CD. It's funny, though. John Williams has, up until now, been the only composer of film music I have followed, and certainly the only film composer whose music I would automatically buy. So I feel sort of strange buying Goldsmith. Like I'm taking a mistress or something.Should I get over it?
Mr. Breathmask 480
Of course you should get over it. It's Jerry Goldsmith, for crying out loud!Good luck getting the score, though. Intrada released this a while back, but it has long sold out. Looks like a trip to eBay.
Morlock 9
I'ts no huge loss, if you ask me. Sure, it's a great score, but it's an album to be appreciated, not to be enjoyed.
crocodile 6,294
I own only the original 40-minute album and it is a killer, if you ask me. I haven't heard the Intrada release. It's probably even better.Karol
Ollie 859
The Intrada version is the actual score from the film. It was limited to 3000 copies as sold out quickly. Goldsmith did a re-recording that was paired with Outland and released by GNP Crescendo that was released earlier but I believe that one is out of print as well. However Outland and the re-recorded Capricorn One were re-issued on seperate CDs, imports I believe, so you might be able to find it that way at a cheaper price. If you can get both I would recommend it because they make nice companion pieces.
tharpdevenport 4
No trip to eBay, I think FirstContactRecords still has some.Definately buy it, and while at it, "Rudy".
Morlock 9
Isn't Rudy still in print? It is certainly a must, I can't think of a better sports score.
Ollie 859
Plus the DVD has an isolated score.
Morlock 9
Yay..... Morlock- who doesn't like isolated scores, especially when the score has a fine CD release
Marian Schedenig 5,520
Plus the DVD has an isolated score. And there's a bundled version that includes the soundtrack CD and isn't expensive. I think I got mine for about $15 at eBay (brand new).
Morlock 9
...but then you don't get the jewel case, which can be annoying if you like the original cases for everything. There are a couple of CDs I have without the jewel cases, I barely concider them in my collection, as I can't see them on my shelf (and don't want to improvise one). Marian Schedenig 5,520
Yes, I'm "actively" missing the case... same goes for Terminal. I have to get cover scans for these someday.
robthehand 3
It's not the fact that I can't put it alongside the other CDs that bothers me - it's the fact that I always forget I have it. I nearly bought a CD of Schindler's List a while ago, forgetting that I already had it as part of the deluxe DVD box set. banghead iTunes goes some way to resolving that, but I still try and avoid those DVD+CD boxes now.
