Omen II 1,235
BTW, what is an iussive subjunctive? Never heard of the term. How long have you got, Chris? We have them in English (sort of). If you were to translate the following well-known phrases into Latin you would use either a iussive subjunctive or the similar hortatory subjunctive ('subjunctive' refers to the mood of the verb, to give it its technical term):Lest we forget.May the force be with you.Let it be.Heaven help us!The word 'iussive' itself comes from the Latin verb 'iubere' meaning 'to order'. The following explanation may help.

John Williams, the BPO, and the entire chorus is applauding you.
