Williams vs. Goldsmith Round 2

Round Two of the comparison between the works of John Williams vs. Jerry Goldsmith covers the years 1980 - 1985.

Both composed for feature films and TV. Williams had the distinction of becoming principal conductor of the Boston Pops in 1980. This may have been a reason for his cinematic score output. Between 1981 - 1985 Goldsmith composed 23 scores while Williams only composed 10 for film & TV. Included also was his fantastic theme for the 1984 Olympics.

Additionally Williams composed the theme for Yes, Giorgio, and his themes for Superman and JAWS were utilized in the Sequels Superman II & III and JAWS 3D, respectively.

During this period the Star Trek series of films had sequels as well, but did not utilize Goldsmith's themes from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

As in the previous posting, below are the compositions of Goldsmith & Willaims during this period.

What are your thoughts and favorites from this period?

1981 for me - Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Final Conflict, Masada, Inchon, Outland and Night Crossing.

1982 would be very close behind, for E.T. and Poltergeist, but I prefer Raiders and The Final Conflict, respectively.

I know only about 10 % of Mr. Goldsmith's output , only the more famous scores.( I love them)

But in 1981 , seven scores! There must be mistake.Or if not , they cannot be all listenable.

Just out of curiosity.

I'm a novice in film music(except Williams)

Outland is probably the only weak score out of Goldsmith's 81 output.

Night Crossing is a definitive career highlight. Final Conflict doesn't require any more words.

I think 1981 stands a good chance here. :)
