He was an extra?! Wow.

I completely underestimated his fanboyism.

Yeah, getting paid to be in a movie is "fanboyism". I even got paid to get my hair cut.

I didn't mention it here, though I did link to the 2 photos from AICN that I'm in (if you know where to look) from the shoot last March as CSUN.

Ah okay I see you changed your avatar now Neil. Did you meet any of the main characters from the film or no?

You can see in that shot I'm sitting in the same row as McCoy, Chekov, Sulu and Uhura (that's her forehead). I didn't get to meet them. The rule of thumb is not to talk to the principal actors unless they talk to you. They were busy talking to themselves between takes. But here's some trivia. John Cho chews Dentyne Ice! At least he did that day. I saw him smuggling that in his cadet uniform. Rare Star Trek trivia you can only get here!!!

I was on for 5 days. Four in December 2007 and one day in March last year. This shot in the trailer was a December shot. I had two costume fittings at Paramount as well but I never worked at Paramount. I'll write more about it after the film comes out. But now if anyone wants to know why I was posting like this was going to be the greatest movie ever, now you know. It was purely for selfish reasons. So sorry "richuk", I'm not quite as big a fanboy for this as you thought.

I just now looked at the high def version of the cap and I see it clearly now, gotcha.

That sucks but figures at the same time.

Captain Kirk:

"This is a dangerous mission men and it's likely some of us will not survive." "The landing party will consist of myself, Dr. McCoy, Mr. Spock and Ensign Bulk."

Hopefully if he gets it, its sorta like Paul Winfields/Capt. Terrell death scene, I prefer slow vaporization to the all at once.

That would certainly be cool.

No, I didn't get to keep the costume, Pixie. Security was very tight on this. We had raincoats to wear to hide our costumes and we had to turn in the gold emblem as well on the last day of shooting.

I was going to ask where are your glasses Neil, but then it occured to me, obviously you're not allergic to Retinax V.

Ha nice. Well really no one wore glasses in the future minus Kirk and as McCoy said in Star Trek II that it was rare to find ones with lenses intact. So it was understandable they had Neil not wear his glasses.

That question came up a few times on set, and that was always my answer. Fortunately, most of the people on set got the line.

The truth is, my glasses were in their case, under my seat, and I put them on after every take.

And my glasses case can be seen in this photo. I can be seen sitting on the corner of the wall, just above that yellow pole on the left.

Fantastic trailer. This looks great, the only Trek film that I can say I'm really intrigued by (not a fan).

I see no one wanted to talk to you.

I look forward to the huge plot twist in the film where you were Kirk's accomplice for sabotaging the Kobyashi Maru.

That was by far the best trailer. A minimum of hyper editing, cool new lines and glimpses. I'm ready.

RED ALERT!! (we need a big siren here)

Go to the movie's official site, which has been updated with background music that sounds very much to me like one Mr. Giacchino. I think we've got our first bit from the new score!

Also, check out Apple trailers for a HD version of the awesome new trailer.

That's got to be Giacchino, yeah. Interesting use of Horner-like chords, like you said, Marian. Not sure I'm a fan of the electronic percussion, but it'll probably grow on me vastly. Fingers crossed for a great score and a great film...

Being discussed, along with apparently the first sample of the score, in this thread, though they should be merged.

Thanks for letting me know - I never would have known the trailer was being discussed there (from the thread title).

I am so sick of these "Oneliners"... Destiny, day of reckoning, path to decide... blaaaaaahhhhhh

Oye...don't mock the trek.

Besides, oneliners are a staple of American culture and films. What, you don't like Americans!?

The teaser got me more excited than anything in that trailer.

The special effects look ridiculously cool, I won't lie. I'm glad the makers are favoring an artistic approach to CGI over a realistic one.

Nice article Chris, thanks.

In case you missed it in the other thread, go to the official movie site, startrekmovie.com, to hear a clip of the new score!

It will be subtly hinted at throughout the film, and during the End Credits Gia will have a full and rather vintage sounding rendition.

After which I will accuse him of copying the idea from David Arnld's Casino Royale.

Mmmm Casino royale does not have much hinting...

Just some chords when Bond arrives to jamaica and maybe other places... :P

Not quite yet. I'm still not seeing the sense of scale. The Enterprise has never felt bigger than in drydock in TMP.

I completely agree with this.

To me, the new Enterprise looks like a piece of turd.

Well, I was commenting on the technical achievements of visual effects, not the designs. I think the new Enterprise looks beautiful, very 60' with those nacelles that harken to the Aston DB5.

Well you can still design the TOS E for the big screen but still make it look very similar to the original design. Hell Gabriel Koerner made an updated version of the TOS E that looks simply AWESOME and should have been used for this film. If you haven't seen the design google it and you'll see it.

I think this and Galactica are proving that good CG has really become the equal of modelwork, at least for space scenes.

I disagree; I think these new effects look great because they don't even try to be realistic. They're stylized and totally out of control. You can tell the animators had a lot of fun working on this film. Model work, I feel, is still the benchmark for "realistic" effects.
