I'm doing my part!

I think that, because of the impending tenth anniversary of the film version of Starship Troopers, we need an expanded rerelease of the score. I mean c'mon! Varese did it for Total Recall! Who's gonna step up to the plate? This is a magnificent score. While I like the OST quite a bit, it's missing quite a few important bits from the film.

"Carmen's Departure" comes to mind. We need a better rendition of the love theme than the one used in "Punishment/Asteroid Grazing" to be represented on the album. We need more material from the Whisky Outpost sequence, mainly the finale.

But more than anything, I think we need more of the non action-oriented music. Don't get me wrong; I like the action, but there's a good deal of material in the film that's quite beautiful yet not on the OST. Where's "Dizzy's Death"!!! Where's "Welcome Home", from the scene when the Roger Young returns after the battle on Klendathu, hmmm?

Okay, I know we don't need any of this. But it would be nice!

Rico, you know what to do! Do it Rico!!!!

(Hmm, makes you wonder how funny that scene would have been had Schwarzenegger been in Ironside's part. He does like to say "Do it!" after all.)

A complete edition of Starship Troopers would be great, and I agree the non-action stuff is superb, as in "Asteroid Grazing".

This reminds me I have still not had time to copy the music from the DVD's isolated track.

And I love the movie, too.

I find the Starship Troopers score to be....too much of a good thing, in it's complete form.

We must of course also remember that Total Recall was a big hit as a film, and Troopers was a financial flop.

That might affect chances of a re-release.

Starship Troopers is the other masterwork of Poledouris (after Conan). He took EIGHT months to write the whole score, so you can perceive how much work there is in each single cue. It has multiple themes (for both the action and characters), very ellaborated and cohesive, something you don't hear anymore in film scores.

It definitely needs a complete release.

The complete is too long, and officially available as an isolated score on DVD.

Yes, and misunderstood.

Completely. I made fun of the movie even before it was released (to my defense, the teaser with Paul Veroehven really sucked). I was really blown away once I sat down and watched it though. I can only thank the friend who convinced me to watch it.

An iso score is nothing like an expanded release on CD.

I'm not saying I want every little bit of music from the film, but the OST is slanted toward action. "Fed Net March" and "Dizzy's Funeral" are the only tracks that don't explode into action at some point. Sure, it's an action score, but to have more non-action cues on a legitimate release would be wonderful.

I like the score but I'll settle for my DVD rip right now.

I'd rather see the effort be put on other scores that need and expanded/complete release.

This is probably my favourite Poledouris score. And there is an awful lot of outstanding music missing from the official release. The unmentionable version sounds ok, but the official CD is one of the best-sounding discs I've hard. So yes, we absolutely need a complete (or at least seriously expanded) official release.
