ChuckM 1
I was wondering if anyone knows the significance of the two different openings for Olympic Fanfare and Theme? In all my recordings of OFaT, there is one recording (I believe it is called Buglers Dream), but my piano sheet music, and the version of it my high school band played has a different opening. Anyone know why this is?(Also does anyone have a good recording of the alternate opening? )
Ollie 859
If you are talking about Williams' 1984 theme he recorded a version for the Summon The Heroes CD that features "Buglers Dream" at the beginning. That is the only time I've heard that piece performed that way. Every other recording I've heard features it the way Williams composed it for the 1984 Olympics.I'm sending you a file to your PM box. John Crichton 4
And Bugler's Dream is not Williams, it was written in the 60s (I forget who by) as the general main Olympic theme.

nightscape94 965
From what I remember, "Bugler's Dream" is a part of something called the "Charge Suite" which was commissioned by Felix Slatkin (Leonard's father) for an album called "Charge!" in 1958 for military band. Leo Arnaud wrote a few pieces for the record. A rep from ABC heard it, loved it, and they bought the rights for their telecast of the 1960 Olympics in California, USA.Tim
Ollie 859
You can't have an Olympics without "Buglers Dream". It's a great piece of music.
