Rumor: a second Bassoon Concerto from Williams?

I heard the other evening about Williams writing a second Bassoon concerto, this time for David McGill of the Chicago symphony. The person I heard it from is a bassoon player and graduate of the Eastman School. I haven't been able to get hold of him to find out where he heard this from, but I will pass on information as soon as I hear anything.

In the meantime, if anyone else out there has heard anything about this, please share. And no, I'm not getting this mixed up with the up and coming Viola concerto.

Any help would be...helpful

Update!

The source of this rumor about another Williams Bassoon Concerto comes from... David McGill himself.

No news about when this is supposed to happen, but from the sounds of it, it will happen in the near future. Stand By...

I'd rather he scored a movie instead

oh well another concerto that sounds antipodal to his film music that I'll listen once or twice.

I agree, I'd rather hear a new score than another Bassoon Concerto. one is more than enough.

But Williams can do whatever he wants.

He left us, He left us.

I'm happy about this. Perhaps with the inclusion of more concert works in his repetoire his music will become more accepted by traditional concert ensembles and critics.

That Opera is a long time coming, so I certainly hope he can get to it in the next 5 years. However, I'm glad to hear this rumor, which actually has some merit, and doesn't sound like another crappy false rumor. I'd love to hear another Bassoon concerto, and I'm really anxious to hear this Viola concerto. With Indy 4 next year, 2008 could be a great Williams year, with a long awaited score project and two concertos.

I really wish Williams would write symphonies.

Jeff

He wrote one, but was despleased with it, and took it out of his catalogue of works for revision... untll today.

I know, but that was decades ago and he hasn't written one since.

I guess he's more interesting in tackling projects for specific instruments. I suppose concerti are more challenging for him, or drive his interest a bit more than writing a general work for orchestra.
