Article in yesterday's London Evening Standard began:

"Dam Busters fly in for British [sic] film night at the Proms.

The 113th BBC Proms will celebrate great British films with a concert of scores from classics such as The Dam Busters and The Bridge on the River Kwai.

Marking the 60th anniversary of the British Academy of of Film and Televison Arts, the concert at the Royal Albert Hall will also include John Williams's soundtrack for Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone.

Announcing this year's Proms programme today, controller Nicholas Kenyon said: 'Some of the best music by British composers was written for film so we thought it might be a good moment to celebrate that.'"

No date for the concert is given. Presumably it will be performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Well, I was looking at the Proms schedule, and it says the concert will be on July 14. They'll be playing "Harry's Wondrous World".

I would like to go to Prom 50, John Adams "Doctor Atomic Symphony" world premiere.

Because it's sharp, it will hurt more.

Wrong.

"Because it's dull, you twit, It'll hurt more!"

For some reason I thought you said "knife".

Well it's July and tomorrow is the day we've been waiting for. The concert starts at 7.30 and the full programme is at http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/2007/whatson/1407.shtml#prom2. Admittedly I'm only initially interested in about 3 pieces (Chicken Run, Wonderous World and Lawrence of Arabia) but this looks a very varied program and I can never get enough new music :)

I should be able to get a pretty good audio grab of the whole thing, but I also hope to find a better quality video on a newsgroup.

This sucks....i've been in Britain for the last 3 summers and have been able to watch all the proms they show on TV at those times.....this year i'm doing an internship in Panama and won't be able to see a single one.

In light of this, I will pay the person 1500 guineas who sends me either video footage or audio excepts of the concert tomorrow. :)

How much is a guinea worth?

Why it's worth one pound and one shilling sir (by 19th century standards that is) :)

Wouldn't want to pay in pounds in this day and age....especially since my money is good old american money (which isn't doing well against the pound at all right now).

Fear not, Beowulf! I believe that the BBC cameras will be in attendance and that the concert will be shown on BBC2 on 28th July. You can also hear it live on BBC radio 3 (although maybe not in Panama, where they slit your throat first and ask questions later).

I could video it for you (VHS only, I'm afraid), but no doubt others who frequent this board have the wherewithal to record it digitally, so you may get a better offer.
