What's the theme that best portrays love? I would have to pick Han Solo and the Princess or Love Theme from Superman. Don't base your vote purley on the song. I am not a big fan of the SONG Han Solo and the Princess, but I love the THEME.

"Across the Stars" is beautiful and tragic, like something Rota might have written. And of course (according to Williams) it's the first love theme ever written for the Star Wars franchise, so I guess the lovely "Han Solo and the Princess" is disqualified.

I voted "Han Solo and the Princess"--not because I dislike the others at all, but because I feel like this one receives better treatment within its film. I've heard "Viktor and Amelia," but it's been some time and all I remember is not feeling extraordinarily moved by it. "Indy and Willie" has always struck me as strange for their particular romance...but then again, their romance has always struck me as strange, too. The other four choices are great, as far as I'm concerned, but I placed my vote based on overall value throughout the score.

Han Solo and the Princess. It's my favourite love theme of any composer.

It's a pity John Williams does not remember ever writing it though.

Don't give him hard time, he is old and it's his right not to remember some thing ... at least he doesn't persevere with the same melodies he already wrote, like Horner does (which - given the number of JH's repetitions - could be a sign of dementia or something )

the Love theme from Superman is his greatest single track ever, EVER.

For me it's a very, very tight race between Han and Leia, Across the Stars, and Superman.

In the end I'll go with Han and Leia by half a nose and a half note.

John- still not a big fan of Marion's theme

Definitely Marion's Theme. This is certainly not to bash any of the others--I love them all. But Marion's Theme has always stood out to me as the most beautiful among Williams's love themes. It's sad that it hasn't received a true, full concert arrangement. I hope the theme is done justice in Indy IV.

Ah. Well, that still doesn't explain how a hope that they do Marion's Theme justice in Indy IV is the stupidest thing Stefan has heard. I think he needs to get out a little more. Or read some of robthehand's old signatures.

I was responding to Deloreanguy whatever too.

Marion's Theme was an important part of the Raiders score. Just because it did not recieve a full out concert expansion, which would have probably been very much along the line of Princess Leia, Han Solo & The Princess and the Superman Love theme anyway hardly means that it was not done justice.

I suppose I did articulate that wrongly. It was definitely done justice in Raiders--I was really lamenting the fact that we have concert pieces for Princess Leia's Theme, Han Solo and the Princess, Love Theme from Superman, and Across the Stars, yet the closest thing to one for Marion's Theme comes in the End Credits of Raiders. Oh, well...

How did we hear about that, anyway? I only heard that he said Across the Stars was the first Star Wars love theme, and I always assumed he was speaking in terms of in-story chronology. That would be a shame, if he really has forgotten it. I would hate to write something that good and forget about it.

I voted for "Han Solo and the Princess".

My favorite is still "Leia's Theme", if that even counts as a love theme.

It always sounded like one to me.

It's a lovetheme for when Luke first sees the projection of her, and sees how beautiful and sad she is. Before actually meeting her and finding out she's a bitchy little brat, and his sister.

Princess Leia theme is a love theme to me, just as Nadia's theme is

Love Theme from Superman

It's a toss-up between that and Han Solo and the Princess, though. Ask me any other day and the two might be reversed.

And yes, Leia's Theme would certainly qualify as "the love theme from Star Wars".

Well, even though I chose the Superman love theme, this is by no means a comprehensive list...Jane Eyre, Far and Away, and even Heartbeeps have worthy loves themes as well. And I'd probably pick "Princess Leia's Theme" over all of them.

I also choose "The Superman". With all due respect to the other love themes, that one is my favourite. Too bad JW didn't get his chance to write a love theme for Harry Potter franchise.

He did, actually.

Do you mean "Window to the Past"? If so, it's more about a longing for parents. Though it has something to do with the concept of "love", it's not like the rest of love themes regarding relationship between a man and a woman.

So? A lovetheme does not strictly have to concern romantic love.

Both the "family portrait" theme and Window To The Past qualify as lovethemes to me. Harry's love for the parents he never grew up knowing.

Still, the typical notion of a LOVE THEME reffers to the romantic one. Otherwise we could easily include some music from ET or "CMIYC"'s "Recollections" to the list.

I can't help it if people are narrowminded.

Yes, but all these imperfections make the World not be a boring place ;)
