nicholas 1
I was idly watching a re-run of "The Towering Inferno" on TV the other day when I heard what I assumed to be its love theme. Isn't this, apart from a note or two, IDENTICAL to the theme from "Earthquake"?I suggest that the United Nations is convened immediately to discuss this pressing issue of world importance. GoodMusician 53
I suppose they are similar, if you ignore all the differences in the Towering Inferno track... but they have quite a few differences... its like saying that Qui-Gon's theme and the Bandits theme from Home Alone are the same... they're in the same vein musically, but I wouldn't say they are the same...Towering Inferno is one of my favourite scores and I do enjoy Earthquake hehe
Omen II 1,088
Yes Nicholas, there is a great similarity between the theme for Lisolette and Harlee from the Towering Inferno and the main theme for Earthquake. Lisolette and Harlee are the characters played by Fred Astaire and Jennifer Jones. No doubt you are referring to the lovely rendition in the end titles (An Architect's Dream) from about [1:46] onwards? The similarity is enough to have struck me the first time I saw both movies.Although the United Nations have scandalously ignored the issue, if I recall correctly some numpty JW fan pointed out the similarity in his analysis of the Earthquake score somewhere on this august website a while back. Although the Earthquake album is good fun, it is clear from other posts on this board that it is not to everyone's taste. I think that part of the reason why the score is not better appreciated is that the album ditches much of the dramatic underscore in favour of extended versions of some of the source music, some of it appearing only fleetingly in the actual film. The CD could also have been much better sequenced, but I live in hope that some day the original masters will find their way onto CD.
ChuckM 1
I actually have yet to listen to either of those scores, or to see either of those movies in their entirety, so I really have no clue. For that matter, I'm not really sure why I bothered to post at all, in that case. Guess I'm bored.

GoodMusician 53
see, this is why it pays to be more specific... lol... I was thinking you meant "Something For Susan."Lisolette and Harlee is definately a very... strange.. lift of Earthquake... I do enjoy that melody a lot... I love that first part of the phrase...
