Goblet of Fire is my least favorite Harry Potter score, but I keep coming back to it, and I keep finding new pleasures with it. The latests one was during "Voldemort." At about 8:50, there is a beautiful, breathtaking theme played by the orchestra. What a beautiful piece. Shame is was so short.

Finally something to take my focus off LotR

It's such a bland boring theme

Why do we even bother discussing anything but Williams?

Well, I figure this will turn into a JW conversation soon.

SHHHHHHHH!!! What the hell are you thinking! You know perfectly well we're not allowed to praise Doyle or GoF in any way, shape or form here.

You're right...they're coming to get me....the JWFAN Law Enforcers....help!....HELP!....AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!

;)

"This will teach you not to praise Doyle anymore!"

"Alright, I swear, I'll stop! I'll do anything! Please!"

"Now, swear your alleigance to the Code-of-the-Don't-Praise-Controversial-Composers-Guild-of-JWFAN!"

;)

"Okay, I swear to honor the Code! I will always honor the Code! Never again will I defy the Code!"

It's a good moment in the score, for sure. I can't help but imagine what "A Window to the Past" could've done for the scene, but Doyle's music at that point was certainly appropriate and effective.

*shrug* I never thought Window to the Past was that great. I mean, is it enjoyable, yes, is it good, yes, but I would take Buckbeak's Flight or Double Trouble anyday over Window.

and why should we, Doyle should suffer the Avada Kadavra curse for that score, beyond a few highlights its a major disappointment.

Windows to the Past is a beautiful piece of music, so much better than anything say Han Zimmer could come up with. I had the misfortune of hearing his socalled score from DaVinci Code tonight. He stole chucks of it from the Dimitri Tiomkins fantastic score from The Thing from Another World.

You know, quite frankly I don't see the point in being cynical about people on a John Williams fan site vocally favouring his music by usually arguing that other composers' works (particularly when they're directly comparable, re: attempts at Harry Potter scoring) are inferior to Williams'.

You know perfectly well that you're most welcome to praise Doyle, but must accept some shape or form of subsequent debate.

That's what I used to think. But you should give the score a few more listens. It's still the worst Potter, but it is still good.

And I think Window isn't JW's strongest piece. CheValier de Sangreal beats it by a longshot, IMO. JW still has other pieces that kick them both to the curb, however.

You did not just insult my Window to the Past.

Liking Hans Zimmer. One thing. Hell liking Hans Zimmer more than Williams or Goldsmith is one thing.

But Saying Chevaliers is better than Window....?

That's just stupid. It's among the best pieces of music in the last century.

"Window to the Past" is probably my favorite Potter theme outside of "Hedwig's Theme".

Though, as I've mentioned before, it quite a few structural similarities to "The Face of Pan".

"The Face of Pan".

Ruined by being overdone with too much unnecessary garbage crowding the track.

Window to the Past is raw emotional power, and yet it is three different songs in one, depending on what YOU the listener bring to it. It is art in the purest form.

The Face of Pan is an excercise in embellishing an otherwise good piece of music.

Do you justify anything you ever say? Particularly when thoroughly trashing any score not by JW.

And I would take the exact opposite.

Are we still allowed to enjoy certain Williams pieces over other pieces, or am I just being a brainless Window to the Past fanboy now?

 Our liberties as JWFans are slowly and deliberately being stripped away!

Soon it'll be, "You like that rendition of the flying theme in 'Adventures on Earth' at 6:57 better than the one at 13:46?! What the hell's wrong with you, you first-half-of-Adventures-on-Earth fanboy??"

But for the record, the second rendition of the Flying theme IS much better.
