Ollie 859
The Austin Wind Symphony Orchestra performed a Halloween concertn this past Friday night. http://www.austinwindsymphony.org/I think Greta had mentioned them to me when we were down in Houston. They are devoted to playing film and TV music only. Next March they will have a concert devoted to video games and then in May they will do an Indiana Jones concert. Even though we left almost 2 hours early we arrived about 8 minutes late thanks to the usual I-35 Texas traffic.I think we missed the Herrmann section but we came in the middle of Beetlejuice.Next up was Elfman's Batman theme then came 3 pieces from Jaws featuring the concert version of the theme as heard on the original LP, but this was slightly different as the "Out To Sea" theme was included. Then the opening of "Chrissie's Death" was played followed by the complete concert version of "Out To Sea".Then came the hilight of the evening, for me at least, as the first ever US concert performance of Akira Ifukube's King Kong vs Godzilla was premiered. The cues covered were; "Seahawk SOS", "Resurrection of Godzilla", "Operation Kong" and "Main Titles".We then went back to John Williams as Jurassic Park was next. The cue selected was "Journey To The Island" which began as it did in the film and then segued into the concert version of the fanfare.Star Wars was next and that was somewhat of a dissappointment as it featured a somewhat abbrieviated version of the end credits from AOTC.It basically began with the Imperial March/Across The Stars as heard in the finale of AOTC to the arrangement of the Fanfare as heard in the all the prequel end credits and then to the finale minutes of the end credits from Star Wars.Up next was a fun rendition of Jerry Goldsmith's "End Credits" to Gremlins followed by the only major goof of the evening. They played to selections from Harry Potter, Dobby's Theme from COS was played first but instead of playing Williams' Voldemort theme they played Doyle's version from GOF and credited it to Williams. Then we came to the end and that was the theme from Williams' Land Of The Giants. We had a very good time and considering the orchestra consists of only 50 or so memebers I thought they handled all the cues as good as they could. They played with a lot of energy and enthusiasm, at least I thought so.

Omen II 1,088
Then we came to the end and that was the theme from Williams' Land Of The Giants. It must have been great to hear that played live, Mark. Was it the first or second series theme? And did they have a giant cat mewing at the appropriate point?! Nice use of music from It Came From Outer Space in their little advert too! Ollie 859
I forgot to mention that they had clips playing on two large screens and every once and awhile they would play the sound effects, during the KK vs Godzilla suite they had G's roar but no cat meowing.I think it was season one. John Crichton 4
I think Mark's wife is a fan now, she just won't give him the satisfaction of admitting it. She looked like she was enjoying herself enough in Houston.Very nice Mark, and that's a really good selection of pieces. Next time (or sometime in the future) I'll try to arrange to go with you guys, it's only about a 3 hour drive for me, with a lot less of I-35 to deal with. Yes, with this much advance notice that should be pretty easy to arrange to go to both. I'll get back to you.
Ray Barnsbury 8
Sounds like a great concert. I've been so jealous of that band ever since I came across their website a couple years ago, being able to play all film music all the time. I'd kill to play in a band like that!Ray Barnsbury

indy4 152
I wish I could design a concert of my favorite film music, and then go to it. That would be great...
