Quintus 5,391
Heard at 01:22, how was this 'ancient' sound of voices created? The choir almost sounds like its playing back in mono against the stereo orchestra. Is it even a real choir? Whatever the answer, its a very effective touch by Williams and I like the air of the unknown it evokes.
mahler3 353
Yes agreed, this is very effective - might well have been electronically produced but I would have to have another listen to it
Mr. Breathmask 480
I think it's synth.
Quintus 5,391
Is it the only instance of choral music in the entire score? If so then it probably is synth. Nicely done though.
Mr. Breathmask 480
I think it's the only choral bit, yes.
Josh500 1,602
Yeah, I love that! I agree it's a sythethizer. A real choir wouldn't have sounded "ancient" enough, probably.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,251
I'm pretty sure that it was more of a budgetary thing then an aesthetic one, actually.
Romão 1,931
Wasn't the scoring of this particular sequence shown in the DVD feauturette?

Josh500 1,602
Actually, for Jurassic Park JW also utilized synthethizers to enhance the choir.Check this out . . . I never would have guessed . . . John Williams also utilized synth instruments/choir and a real choir in the score to Jurassic Park. Almost every cue has either subtle to grand choir moments or doubling the orchestra by synth. Many of the most memorable moments such as "Journey to the Island" have the main theme doubled by synth instruments, making a grander sound.
