Ollie 859
Bernard Herrmann scored 4 films for special effects maestro Ray Harryhausen. All 4 are/were available in some form, originaltracks and re-recording.For me Jason and the Argonaughts is the best of the bunch, an oustanding re-recording done by Intrada featuring Bruce Broughton conducting the Sinfonia Of London. robthehand 3
Mysterious Island, with Jason and the Argonauts a very close second.
mahler3 353
7th Voyage of Sinbad followed closely by 3 World of Gulliver, although the latter is a bit too twee in some places. Both RSNO recordings by Varese are spectacular, with Herrmann's own National Phil recordings on the old Decca Phase 4 Stereo CD's being of course legendary! Pieter Boelen 633
I like the main theme to The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, but have not been able to get into the rest of the score for some reason.
Hitch 55
I voted for GULLIVER as I love the overture and the 18th century English style composing he contributed to this amazing score.

Omen II 1,088
They're all great, but my vote goes to Mysterious Island. Luckily Mark O. limited the poll to Herrmann's Harryhausen collaborations; had he included his other fantasy scores such as Journey to the Center of the Earth and Fahrenheit 451, I would have struggled to decide. artyjeffrey 20
Nice, austere, slightly disturbing avatar, Jeshopk! They're all great, but my vote goes to Mysterious Island. Luckily Mark O. limited the poll to Herrmann's Harryhausen collaborations; had he included his other fantasy scores such as Journey to the Center of the Earth and Fahrenheit 451, I would have struggled to decide.I've always wondered how a Herrmann score for "Clash of The Titans" would have sounded, if he had lived that long and was still on good terms with Schneer. Ollie 859
I've always wondered how a Herrmann score for "Clash of The Titans" would have sounded, if he had lived that long and was still on good terms with Schneer. It would have been outstanding. The reason Herrmann didn't continue to score their films was due to the fact that Harryhausen and Schneer couldn't afford the costs of retaining him. In fact I believe it was Herrmann who recommended Laurie Johnson to score Harryhausen's First Men In the Moon. Miklos Rozsa did a fantastic job The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad and Jerome Moross did a good job with The Valley Of Gwangi. I'm not too keen on Roy Budd's Sinbad And The Eye Of The Tiger .I do think Rosenthal did an oustanding job with Titans.
artyjeffrey 20
I agree. I think it's been woefully underrated and forgotten. Deserves better.I also have "Eye of the Tiger," and I can't get past the first track before losing interest.
