In Round 1, Monsignor cruised to a fairly easy victory over the superior but misunderstood Images....OK, little editorial rant there.

In Round 2, after a bitter but surprisingly bloodless fight Alien scored a one vote upset of Return of the King.

Now the winners go head to head. I'm not sure of my vote, both of these were my second rather than first choices.

Like I said in the other thread, we knew ROTK was coming and how it would be presented for about 3 years before it was actually released.

A L I E N was a complete suprise, no one knew it was coming and Nick Redman has mentioned the masters were lost. Had ROTK been released without anyone knowing about it then maybe it might get my vote.

Alien.

Monsignor is a decent effort by Williams. However, It's one that won't ever belong in the same league as Goldsmith's outstanding score to Alien. Not in popularity, nor score.

Monsignor is merely a blip on the radar screen compared to Intrada's astounding release of Alien.

While Alien isn't Williams and musically it's not everyone's cup of tea, it is the kind of release that most of us would like to see more of... prominent sought-after titles restored, expanded/complete with extras & detailed liner notes.

RotK was a sure thing and we knew it was coming.

Alien is an old dream come true.

Which doesn't affect the quality of both releases, and is therefor invalid as a point, since the question is not which rerelease was least expected, but which one's best.

As He Who Created The Poll I have no problems with people finding their own criteria of "best". It is a valid point that RotK was long expected while Alien, as well as Monsignor and Images, were total surprises.
