Hans Zimmer Appreciation Thread

I saw Wonder Wonder 84 yesterday, because I knew Zimmer gave his very best on that score. The music is very good indeed and the movie is obviously insufficient next to it.

Another case of "the music saved the movie"!

In WW84's case, the music is by far the only good thing about the movie.

Zimmer should've won the Oscar for this score, not Dune.

...and David Fleming and Steve Mazzaro!

An Academy Award is not won by the "best", it's won by the one who particularly illustrated himself and made the "buzz", it can also be a warm tap on the shoulder given by the pairs, when they feel it's deserved or needed.

The important is to be nominated by the Academy Awards, the rest is secondary.

I know It's a common fashion to "hate" Hans Zimmer... the man's bad character increasing with age may not have helped...

Anyway, you can't seriously pretend to be a film score lover and ignore him.

All this to say that I slowly started a little collection of albums of interest in the last months...

Never say never!

Dune had no particular effect on me. The first video is not available "in my country".

Very odd for a video be available in Brazil but not in Canada :/

Anyway, try this one, it's not "official" so it's probably not geoblocked:

Currently learning this piano piece.

Surprised to see two co- authors!

Btw

If Hans scored BOURNE , that thread would be filled with.carping about how " tuneless, repetitive, noisy, sound designy...."😉

Did a little google and apparently these are the music editors of Interstellar and many more HZ and RCP works

Is it an industry norm to credit music editor on the music sheet?

It took three people to write two notes?!

If I remember correctly, the Wonder Woman battle cry theme was credited to 5-6 people on the Justice League soundtrack album.

I guess they are credited on the album.

Zimmer gives credit to folks who contribute extensive sound design work.

Nice guy!

Whatever happened to "one composer writes one score"?

Whatever happened to staying out of an " appreciation" thread if you have nothing but insults to offer?

Repentance, no doubt.

And what happened with a composer writes a good score?

We're seeing good here and there though. I like the theme for Prehistoric Planet.

Karol

And just like INTS, four of those people are music editors and not actual composers.

I'm starting to wonder if HZ's reputation would be slightly improved if he wasn't so credit happy to the point of not being too far off from including the RCP caterer in his cue credits.

So then we wouldn't have factually inaccurate statements like this (which admittedly stems from nobody bothering to actually look things up).

Rarely happens. The only one I can remember now is Conquest of the Skies.

Haven't heard of it. Any good?

My appreciation will start when everyone is credited on the cover, meanwhile i will just say things are good.

Cool, then you have an issue with the industry, not Zimmer.

Guys, this is a an appreciate thread.  If you have negative things to say about Zimmer's music, do so in other threads.

Thanks.

Sadly, Nobody ever listens to you on.this matter.

They just retreat only to return like skunks in.night.

Bring the hammer down on these rebels!😠

Did they use any real footage or is it all cgi?

The images were so sharp I thought the damn DNR was on.

But, even after I turned it off it still had that ' live' look!

Maybe they used the same 48fps format Peter Jackson uses?

There are a variety of live action elements used for landscapes and some closeups

Apparently the album releases next Friday
