Edmilson 4467
I fucking hated Army of the Dead. It's Batman v Superman levels of bad, maybe even worse. Holkebborg's score was so fucking pointless and generic. I don't care if it's John Williams that is scoring the prequels/sequels/whatever the fuck Netflix wants to do with this so called "franchise", I won't watch it. FrankV 193
Coming soon on Blu-ray: Quote Sony Music will release on Blu-ray The World of Hans Zimmer: Live at Hollywood in Vienna. The release will be available for purchase on October 29. Description: Thrillers such as THE DA VINCI CODE, science fiction films (INCEPTION), sandal and pirate movies ranging from "Gladiator" to "Pirates of the Caribbean", historical epics about the likes of KING ARTHUR, animation films à la KUNG FU PANDA, romantic comedies (THE HOLIDAY), and war movies (PEARL HARBOR)… When one lists the different film genres represented 2018, they're all there. The musical ingenuity of one of the most accomplished film score composers is equally comprehensive. We are, of course, talking about Oscar, Golden Globe, and Grammy winner Hans Zimmer. While some describe him as "the rock star of film music", others believe he has been the dream factory's most innovative symphonist for the last 20 years or more. On the occasion of the presentation of the 10th Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award to this exceptional artist on behalf of the City of Vienna, his orchestral film compositions - some of them newly arranged by Hans Zimmer himself - are performed for the first time in a concert hall. They are brought to life musically by illustrious companions and fellow musicians, as well as by the impressive ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna. KK 3251
Can anyone tell me what the best presentation of Interstellar is? Sounds like there were a lot of really cool things that were tried and recorded in the sessions, but so little of it seemed to have made it to the OST. Things like these minimalist oboe figures: Clearly this work was an ambitious undertaking. I just wish the whole score leaned more into those Reich/Glass-esque ideas and embraced its natural acoustic properties more. The clips in the video above sound lovely, but I think some of that material ended up sounding over-produced on the OST itself.

Sounds like there were a lot of really cool things that were tried and recorded in the sessions, but so little of it seemed to have made it to the OST. The first OST released at the time of the movie did indeed omit a lot of the very nice things recorded for the project; However, the current "Expanded" OST available on all digital / streaming platforms (and a physical 2-CD set) contains everything you are looking for (it only misses some some specific film cues only found on the FYC album, but don't worry about those). Each "Disc" essentially operates as its own separate album, with the first disc (the original OST) leaning more towards specific film cues, and the second "disc" leaning more towards his idea pieces that aren't written to picture https://music.apple.com/us/album/interstellar-original-motion-picture-soundtrack-expanded/1533983552 https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_ksMcoC36wmr-fyFQfcpM_TjVqo3pBA1H4 https://open.spotify.com/album/3B61kSKTxlY36cYgzvf3cP?si=tNEBvyudR4Swl2kaZMVTpQ https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/album/interstellar-original-motion-picture-soundtrack-hans-zimmer/previ0q8mktub https://www.hdtracks.com/#/album/5faaac97e84a0e12979e3470 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08JLXYJMB If you really want to examine how the various albums were assembled, you can look at this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yDVlbkzOW6Ytmts4aUQ43pOOVdaLFqBg1KyJUjl4Dd8 But I'd recommend just listening to the Deluxe OST as-is and letting the music wash over you instead of examining it's makeup. Thor 5774
Best version is the OST. It's fairly repetitive music, so at 72 minutes it's already stretching patience. Richard Penna 2486
I've had a long playlist based on the FYC but never really listened to it. I think Thor's on the right track with this one - there are a handful of ideas, and if, like me, you're not familiar with the film (saw it precicely once) and aren't that bothered about specific cues heard in the film, then I'd suggest there's maybe 30 mins or so of concepts to be found. It's still a bit annoying for the wider good that they didn't put the rest of the FYC-only cues on the newest album - that was a nice opportunity to release the whole score for those who want it. Quite simply, Thor, they are exercising their right to free speech, and as long as they remain within JWfan rules, they are entitled to do so, no more, no less. Over the years, JWfan has attracted a few JW haters, but they have all had the good grace to leave, after a while. I'm not trying to defend Bayesian (I'm sure that Bayesian is more than capable of doing that), and I will go on record by saying that I am not a Zimmer hater, but to try to elevate film music (film music, for cryin' out loud!) to this sort of social level, is pure hubris.
