Bespin 6817
An Academy Award is not won by the "best", it's won by the one who particularly illustrated himself and made the "buzz", it can also be a warm tap on the shoulder given by the pairs, when they feel it's deserved or needed. The important is to be nominated by the Academy Awards, the rest is secondary.

If one can measure success in terms of BO of films scored, soundtrack units sold, combined film salaries (etc, etc... pick your criteria) then there is going to be someone who is definitively the most successful. Might be Zimmer, might be someone else (although I suspect it's probably him). But why should such a statement be controversial on a fan forum? My favourite film composer is generally and historically JNH, and I think that amongst his truly great works he's done a lot of absolute garbage. Every composer has, and I don't believe for a nanosecond that anyone gains from constantly seeking validation that their favourite artist is 'the best'. HunterTech 682
You know how many Zimmer critical folk are on here. Surely you would've expected someone to balk at the statement (which I personally think is most likely true if he effectively is the one actual celebrity from the medium). publicist 4635
Williams lesser scores tend to be boring, not garbage, but then i find that label inappropriate, even for JNH paycheck jobs. I'd reserve that term for a good handful of guys that only started in the business in the early 2000's - where there's no remotely musical quality to be found in a succession of scores (not naming names here).
