Hey, I figure if you can get Disney to open their doors, the sky's the limit now. Anything could happen. I mean, we're talking THE MOUSE. This is huge.

Believe it or not I think King Mark might actually be happy about this release.

I ordered it instantly.Despite the synths,I would describe it as one of the last great unreleased 80's Goldsmith scores.

k.M.

I'd group it with Explorers,Gremlins,Twilight Zone The Movie,King Solomon's Mines,or a much better version of "Congo"

the clip The Family and Just a Legend pretty much sums it up

Intrada has supplied sound clips on their website.

I know, but they won't play on my computer. :P

Dammit, I don't have any of those. I don't suppose it sounds at all like anything from Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Planet of the Apes, Mulan, The Mummy, or "Soarin'"?

I haven't heard the score myself, but the samples make it clear it's in that different vein. It's 80's Goldsmith. His voice is clearly there, but it's in that particular flavor. The samples don't really remind me of the scores you mention, except that it's clearly Goldsmith. I went for it without knowing it, if that's any help.

Well to me 1979-1985 Goldsmith is the reference. Baby is just before he started declining sharply (after Legend)

Synths do not make a score immediately bad. If your beloved Goldsmith uses them, and he has on more than one occassion, then they can be used for good.

If you're looking to buy some fantastic Goldsmith, indy4, try The Edge or Congo. I'm not saying don't buy Baby, cause I've never heard it and all the hype is making me consider buying it.

I've been thinking about getting Congo, but I've never heard of The Edge. But it'll probably be a while.

As I said,Congo is just a crappy version of Baby,Secret of the Lost Legend . I'm sure some Goldsmith fans will back me up on this.

Baby is a great Fantasy/Adventure score ,with some synth overlays ,except that the orchestral part is much more layered and interesting than anything he wrote in the 90's

Do you actually have a written list of the scores you plan to buy? If so, that's pretty organized and you are a wise spender.

But yeah, I too cannot listen to these samples. Are they anywhere else besides Intrada?

Koray, I have more stuff than one person needs, and I have more scores than I listen too, so I'm planning on buying Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and the Happening

if a new releases of Raiders, Temple and Last Crusade are released in expanded versions, then I will buy Raiders and Temple as well.

I forgot I plan to buy Hoopers Half Blood Prince as well.

people should buy what they want, 10 years ago, I'd have to have it, but now, I spend my money on things that are more important to me.

One good thing is that I don't have to worry about buying modern film scores. Crystal Skull is probably the only film score from a film released this year that I will buy.

There are 3 other film scores I have on my watch list but that will depend on how they sound.

Everything else will be from Intrada, Varese or FSM

I'm in the same boat for sure.No worries about the dilemna of having to buy Prince Caspian or not.

I am also very picky about retro releases as most of my cherished scores have been already released over the years. This is really an exception.

Synths do not make a score immediately bad. If your beloved Goldsmith uses them, and he has on more than one occassion, then they can be used for good.

The distinction has been made numerous times that synthesized instruments, being instruments that could've been played live, that are used in scores are not well liked here. Synthesized sounds, ones that can't be realistically created by a live instrument, are fine.

Especially since Zimmer is in a position now where he could completely use live instruments but chooses not to most of the time.

Then again, maybe he should stick to synths with his action music because his chord structure and blowing out the registers he uses does not translate at all to live playing. The live performance of He's a Pirate was terrible.

Better yet, he should take those melodies and get someone to really orchestrate them.

-Ben, not quite sure why Zimmer was drug into all of this.

Really? I'm surprised it took an entire 33 posts before the thread turned into a Zimmer-related one.

Well, that's one bootleg I'll gladly delete.

So Intrada made a deal with Disney, too bad there aren't unreleased Williams scores from Disney .Maybe we can hope for an expanded Black Hole

I've heard a few cues of this score before... definitely one I'll be passing up. It just doesn't grab at me.. too synthy.

I don't like the cutesy theme much, but after listening to 'The Jump' on Intrada's website, i knew why Goldsmith is still king (of action music). Got it.

The samples sound great, and I too like Goldsmith best in this period, but what a pity about those synths, which sound and are really, really crappy. I've never been a fan of all his synth work: I know, it's somehow perceived as cutting-edge and whatnot, but seriously, how could one do farting sounds (Rambo) and not think it's gonna be outdated (soon)... The only score he truly integrated synths to blend in is Under Fire, in my opinion. Anyhow, I'd have bought this in an instant, but the synth's will make me rethink it, it's 3000 copies after all, and there must be other Goldsmith scores I'd rather have first.

I've had a few cues from this score for years. Now I can finally own it. Thanks Intrada.

P.S. Don't release FAMILY PLOT for another 100 years.

That's one stupendous release!

Even more: as Doug said, it clearly opens big new doors-- "Jurassic Park Gate"-like doors-- for future releases.

:)

Was this boot: check cover so bad that it needed to 'waste' resources in getting a legal release?

I dont own it so i dont know.

But i feel labels are releasing too much already good quality boots, while unreleased gems are still there.

I mean yes they opened disney, but will they try release for example, Mulan or Dinosaur instead of hunckback of notredame, or ratatouille, ...?

Link to comment

yeah i know.

But in this example:

Raiders has been released unofficialy complete. The boot has slighter more tape hiss and a little distortion.

Would you want to have this released officially INSTEAD of the complete Temple of Doom?

I'll be passing up on this one, but it looks like many will be very happy with this.

Intrada opening up relations with Disney is great and I hope many more Disney titles may find its way to the label.

Manuel, I really don't understand what you have to complain about.
