Beowulf 4 Posted May 1, 2008 Share Posted May 1, 2008 I would love to hear the Maestro conducting Prokofiev's 5th symphony and some various symphonies from Shostakovich (namely his 5th,7th and 9th), for no other reason than I really like the sound JW gets from the Brass section in all his recordings.Conversely, I would also be interested in hearing him some more expressive fare, such as pieces from Debussy - especially 'Prelude on the Afternoon of a Faun'. That bit didn't make me want to hear more though.Can't really think of much. Williams seems to be best when he's conducting film music. Kidding.....I would love to hear Williams conduct Prokofiev's 3rd Symphony although there are already a few excellent readings of that. Truth be told, I'm not sure the maestro's conducting chops can be compared to Von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, Michael Tilson Thomas, or Valery Gergiev. Oh, Riccardo Mutti is pretty good too.I think Williams would do a very nice job at Elgar's Enigma Variations though.
