If the Indy re-releases could only be "expanded"...

I'm speaking in terms of Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade since I'm pretty satisfied with the current expanded Raiders of the Lost Ark though I know many long for "Government Agents" on a legitimate disc.

What started this all off is the fact that I recently got the OSTs for the trilogy and was rather underwhelmed by the presentation of Temple of Doom. Don't get me wrong, I love the score. It's probably my favorite of the three, but the album presentation is far too sparse.

So if the rereleases could only have ten to fifteen minutes more music added to them, and you were in charge of what made the cut, what would you choose?

For Temple of Doom I'd want the cue for the Indy vs. Lao Che diamond negotiations, the choral stuff for the Indian village and the introduction of the slave children material, and the complete bridge finale. That's definitely more than fifteen minutes so we'll stretch it to twenty. And I'll also add the cue for Indy stealing the stones.

I'm really satisfied with the OST to The Last Crusade, but there are a few things I'd like to hear on the album. The action cue for the boat fight toward the beginning of the film, the music for Henry's house, the music for Elsa's betrayal (the musical acknowledgement of her taking the diary is wonderful and hell, this and "Don't call me Junior!" could probably be combined as one cue for the album) and there's also the full "Penitent man will pass" music.

What would you add?

All of the parts you mentioned from Doom and the full film version of Belly Of The Steel Beast from Crusade.

I'm happy with what I have from Raiders, it's enough for me.

Beggars can't be choosers. And we film score fans are certainly S.O.L. when it comes to hearing what we'd like much of the time. I'd rather have an expanded CD than just a rerelease.

The expanded Raiders is fine if I can't add anymore.

Last Crusade: Complete version of Indy's First Adventure, complete version of Belly Of The Steel Beast.

TOD: The music I want to add is too much so I'll just go with the complete night club cue to include the airplane sequence and the complete Bridge finale.

Last Crusade: Complete version of Indy's First Adventure

Oh sugar, I forgot about that. I really want the cue that plays as the young Henry becomes the aged Indiana. It's a lovingly warm statement of his theme and actually one of my favourite moments of many from such a smashing film.

The cues between the Slave Children's Crusade and The Mine Car Chase is the highlight of the score! (other than the film version finale/end credits, but that can already be easily obtained). Surprised that wasn't mentioned already!

I'm not really satisfied with Raiders, it misses that cue (with the alternate) when Indiana Jones uses the whip in the well of the souls. And there's the Well of the Souls bit on the LP. Of course, the boot is complete so this is the less important one. I'd really like a complete release - if they're expanded, why not do it properly. My top favourite unreleased cue has to be Stealing the Stones.

there's some cues in ToD that can be ommited if they HAVE too, like the feast music, some of the music surrounding the Temple ceremony when Indy is fed the poison and hallucinates and the percussions on the bridge

It absolutely got to have(in addition to the previous OST cues):

Deal for the Diamond

Over the Himalayas

The Village and The Legend of Sankara

Trek to Pankock Palace

Stealing the Stones

Short Round Escapes and Indy Rescues Willie

Underground Chaos

Water!

Bridge Fight

Finale (Film Version)

I personally don't see how it can be such a big deal to expand Raiders to completion, so I won't even worry about that--however, if I was going to pick one cue to add, it would be "Through the Wall."

Are belly of the steel beast and the pen is mightier than the sword two sepparated cues or not?

Pen is Mightier than the Sword is actually a separate new passage Williams had to write to accommodate the lengthened Tank Chase sequence. Check the Last Crusade complete analysis on the main page for more info.

that's what i always thought. but since eveyone here was asking for the film version of the cue...instead of just the unreleased cue...

If the Indy soundtracks released in the fall are just 4 CDs, no problem. All we want is the rest of the scores. The original albums gave us about 90%, 40%, and 60% of the scores, respectively. We don't need the same music again. People that are willing to pay for the Indy music should already have what's officially available.

If this release is not done in this manner (or just complete, period), it will be a wasted opportunity. It wouldn't surprise me, though. Lucas and the record companies make me sick (Star Wars Trilogy soundtrack re-re-re-re-releases).

Is Mike Matessino working on the expanded CDs???? Something I heard from a buddy of mine - just a rumour.

you know at this point it's best to burry any hopes whatsoever.

This is ridiculous. Look at the prices they fetch....

It's better than anything in KOTCS and the prequels.

You don't have to buy them. There are other ways...

KM, you seem listless lately....has the KotCS album situation and upcoming re-release of the originals sucked the life out of you??

I'm starting to think that maybe the new upcoming Indy re-releases could be along the lines of the Star Wars Anthology set (i.e. expanded re-sequenced versions, but still not complete). Maybe LucasFilm will tread the waters like in that case to see if there's a general interest and then in a couple of years will release the complete 2-CD versions of all four scores.
