I think one of the points of the Color Purple was the ugliness amongst all the beauty.

Exactly, just like Celie's heart. Despite the ugliness, she never gave up. Beautiful photography doesn't make a monster less hideous. Barry Lyndon looks gorgeous too despite the ugliness of the main character. Where are the complaints now? Spielberg just shows his admiration for directors like David Lean. I can easily find more reviews saying the photography of The Color Purple is the film's forte. Roger Ebert still likes the film very much and placed it in his "Greatest Movies".

Since when are you paraphrasing Ebert?

I am? Did Ebert say the beauty of this film mirrors Celie's heart? I thought he criticized the photography.

I think you need to get into the water a bit more. Oh forgot to tell you, I'll be back in Holland next March ;)

Anyway, all of this is a moot point, since Bill Butler did the best job of all with Jaws.

THE END!

Jaws is wonderful, but its not quite in Close Encounter's or TOD's league.
