Every few days I will post a thread on a random score from my collection that we can discuss and rate. I made a playlist on my computer with one track of each score I've got, so by using the random play option, I'll be able to post a truly random score each time. Hopefully this will allow us to discuss some scores that would otherwise never be discussed. Also we can record the rating so that we can create a full list of the ratings given to scores by JWFan.com.

Last score posted was a really well-known one. Now let's continue with a really obscure one. :)

Today's score is Ducktales: The Movie by David Newman. Are you familiar with it? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? How do do you think it works in the film? What are your favourite tracks?

So far JWFan has rated:

See Soundtrack Ratings by JWFan.com.

This web page contains the ratings from all my previous polls as well as those of Blumenkohl's.

Final ratings are converted to a 1-10 rating for both rating systems so that they can be compared.

I remember Treasure of the Lost Lamp pretty well, but I don't remember the music. Not well enough to remember Christopher Lloyd as the villain...let's see, the last time I saw it, I didn't know who he was...

The music to this didn't grow on me the way that the soundtrack to the TV show did. The DuckTales show music is what got me interested in soundtracks in the first place, long before I knew what Star Wars was or I had any CDs at all. That's not even counting the theme song, the DuckTales intro song is very good, but the music to the show is awesome. I would give just about anything to have a good amount of music from the DuckTales TV show. Beyond the sample flying theme I downloaded from Ron Jones' website. Pure nostalgia from my childhood.

I wonder if there's any music to be gleaned from the TV show DVDs. There probably is, since so much music is recycled from episode to episode, one would simply have to take all possible performances of a cue, line them up in a mixing software, and mute out all the sound effects and dialogue to reveal the music. Assuming you get a 5.1 mix for a TV show, and not just 2.0 stereo. As if any of that's an easy task...

I suppose you've got a bootleg for Treasure of the Lost Lamp? Wow.

Ironically I quote this movie often buy no one catches it...

"Just you ...and me...and a cup of tea!" lol...

I miss this movie... I remember as a child thinking it was dark near the end... when their home was transformed and they were homeless... good cinema ...

The score I don't quite recall... but If I saw it in a store, I might buy it heh

Most of those unfortunately weren't granted a full score release. He's a decent comedy composer and has done some excellent scores like The Phantom, Anastasia, 102 Dalmations and The Brave Little Toaster. Stop being a narrow killjoy.

I wonder why...

The guy's a stock composer. We got a crappy comedy, who do we want to compose the music?...hmm...David Newman! But hey, what do I know, Eddie Murphy likes him, so he must be good!

Anastasia is stunning.

I also don't recall the score, but have very fond memories of the film Ducktales. I must look for it, it was a great movie. I remember being quite scared in parts, and riveted in others.

Those were the glory days of Disney TV. Ducktails, Gummy Bears.... How I miss you.

I definitly did remember liking the score to DuckTales: The Movie quite a lot when I first saw the film when I was little. That was before I ever started listening to movie music. Not just the song, which is good, but the score itself as well. There's a really nice adventurous main theme and nice Egyptian music as well. It's not officially released, but there's a bootleg available that doesn't have amazing sound quality, but it's quite acceptable. I never did listen through the whole thing, but the main theme is really quite nice and there's some good stuff in there. Not a total loss by any means as far as I'm concerned.

I saw this at the theatre when it came out... but that was before I had any serious interest in movies, or noticed the existence of film music, so I don't remember anything.

I really enjoy his Matilda and I'm rather fond of Serenity as well.

Serenity is a nice score, but I find I like it much better in the film than on CD.

And don't forget the wonderful Galaxy Quest. :)

I liked the series very much, it's my favourite one from Disney. As for the movie, I watched it zillion years ago and I don't remeber the single note from the score.

There's some very good pieces in Serenity that I very much enjoy listening to outside of the film. Not a masterpiece, but very enjoyable.

I haven't heard Galaxy Quest, other than when I saw the film.

This is more or else everything David Newman has done in the past 10 years:

So?

The guy's a stock composer. We got a crappy comedy, who do we want to compose the music?

I have an evil joke about you and a certain German stock composer on my lips. We got a hyped blockbuster, who do we want to compose the music?

Seriously, so far you come off as a self-involved, ignorant a- hole.

O.K. Hans Zimmer is a stock composer. Primarily because of Jerry Bruckheimer. That doesn't change the fact David Newman is one too.

I can't comment on the ignorant part, since I'm not fully aware of how knowledgeable you are, but in the short time I've seen you post here, you haven't always been the greatest ray of sunshine either.

"Anastasia" is overrated. It's mickey-mousing nothing.

koraysavas90, I recommend the following scores -- only counting official releases:

Bill & Ted Bogus Journey

http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.5507/.f

If the first film's score ever gets released, I strongly suggest picking it up.

Serenity

http://www.varesesarabande.com/details.asp...2D066%2D682%2D2

Full cues to listen to:

"Going For A Ride"

"Serenity"

"Funeral / Rebuilding"

"Love"

The Brave Little Toaster

SOLD OUT (Percepto)
