BrotherSound 2,242
@Disco Stu There's a new 5-CD Beach Boys box set on the way July 23rd, highlighting their criminally overlooked 1969-1971 era: bruce marshall
Disco Stu 15,495
Finally! We've been waiting on this one a good while. Sidenote: I've always loved the album 20/20 and considered it the turnaround point after a fairly disappointing post-Smile '67-'68 (Friends and Wild Honey have high highs but are mostly just curios to me), and only recently discovered that the fan consensus seems to be that it's not as good as the albums around it. Sure it's got a bunch of covers and is a bit of a mish-mash, but it's a really fun listen! The Dennis songs are pretty underrated, especially "Be With Me". But yes, obviously Sunflower and Surf's Up are the peak of post-Pet Sounds Beach Boys. EDIT: found the tracklist on a cached site (since removed for some reason) https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:jbc7NLTKwFYJ:https://themusicuniverse.com/beach-boys-feel-flows-box-set-detailed/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us BrotherSound

Yeah, the high points of 20/20 (‘Time To Get Alone’ is another great one) are really about as good as anything they’ve done, even if it’s more hit-or-miss than other releases. But that’s definitely the enigma of The Beach Boys. Who else would put the utterly sublime ‘The Warmth of the Sun’ back-to-back with a cheesy spoken-word skit filler track? That view with both ladies standing right angled they adapted from ABBA. A little bit it might be in the music as well. Apart from that the look reminded me of the Indigo Girls. Thor 7,492
For some reason, I never took the time to properly explore Ten Years After -- even if I know it's up my alley. But I got this solo album by TYA keyboardist Chick Churchill from 1973, featuring a starstudded cast of performers (obviously, the Supertramp connection -- Rick plays drums and Roger guitars and bass -- was what got me to get it in the first place). Great, dreamy blues prog.

Wright's voice has a soft, smokey, plaintive, quality. It's the sound of someone who's been around a bit, and who could tell you a few stories about himself. It's a quietly persuasive voice that beckons you into a nice quiet corner of a cosy, log-fire pub, and tells you tales, while you listen, single malt whisky in hand. Sweeping Strings 2,352
Absolutely ridiculous. Guy clearly wants royalties but thinks his case isn't strong enough on its own (and the Nevermind tattoo on his chest and his recreations of the cover for various anniversaries of the album certainly don't help it), so he's went for this crazy 'child porn' angle. Agreed. As it's his image on the cover, it could be argued that he is entitled to royalties. Just how much, and for how long, is between both parties' lawyers. The original deal was set up by his parents, on his behalf, so he should speak to them. Of course he couldn't give permission for his image to be used; he was too busy sucking at his mother's tit! As to pornography; JWfan will, I'm sure, be relieved to know that I see nothing sexual in that cover, but I realize that that doesn't stop other people seeing something erotic, and unhealthy. Of course, he has to prove that the cover is pornographic, and that his patents exploited him. Good luck, with that. Sweeping Strings
