It's gonna get harder for me to have 10 albums on a list, let alone any honorable mentions, by the 2010s.  I started paying much less attention to rock/pop music, even the indie rock that I had followed so closely in my teens and 20s, around that time.  It's not that my thirst for discovering new/different music went away, I just stopped finding it in that space.

Maybe I just don't care what artists younger than me have to say :P

Welcome to my world. I've been feeling that way ever since you began your lists from the 90s onwards. :D

I continue to find rock music that speaks to me in the indie/punk spaces through around 2010-2012.  I really do pinpoint the generational changeover to Gen Zers coming to the fore in that area as probably the cause.  It is actually quite common for me to be like "oh yeah I really liked this band in 2008, I wonder what happened to them" and then google around and figure out all the members left music and got jobs as, like, website designers or whatever lol.

I've sometimes considered making a list of the best albums released in the 1980s by 60s pop/rock survivors (artists who got big in the 60s and survived in the business/life to still be putting out albums of new material in the 80s).  I'm interested because so often 80s albums by these "legacy" acts were viewed as cringe or sad when compared to their 60s work.

If I did make that list, Long Distance Voyager by The Moody Blues would definitely be somewhere on there.  Genuinely great album!

Completely infectious and joyful.  I had forgotten just how much I loved this album until I revisited for making the 2007 list.  The Octopus Project should've been so much bigger.  They later actually wrote a couple of film scores for indie movies, most notably a Robert Pattinson Western called Damsel.

I'm moving on to the 70s, late 60s to mid 70s being my favorite period of rock music, I said screw it and did a top 25 albums.  If a band releases two albums in a year (so much more common back in those days), I allow myself to rank them together if Ilike them basically equally.

1970

1. Badfinger - No Dice
2. Led Zeppelin - III

3. Neil Young - After the Goldrush
4. The Allman Brothers Band - Idlewild South
5. Creedence Clearwater Revival - Cosmo's Factory
6. The Beach Boys - Sunflower

7. The Velvet Underground - Loaded
8. Buddy Miles - Them Changes
9. Elton John - Tumbleweed Connection

10. Randy Newman - 12 Songs
11. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
12. John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band
13. David Bowie - The Man Who Sold the World
14. King Crimson - In the Wake of Poseidon / Lizard
15. Emitt Rhodes - self-titled
16. Emerson, Lake, and Palmer - self-titled
17. Crosby, Still, Nash, and Young - Déjà Vu
18. The Kinks - Lola vs. the Powerman & the Money-Go-Round, Pt. 1
19. The Beatles - Let It Be
20. Rod Stewart - Gasoline Alley
21. The Doors - Morrison Hotel
22. Grateful Dead - Workingman's Dead / American Beauty

1971 was such an insane year for Rod Stewart.  He has three absolutely amazing classic rock records with the two Faces records and Every Picture Tells a Story.  He is forgiven for decades of cringe based on just this one year alone (although my favorite of his solo albums doesn't come until '72)

Finally, you're approaching my favourite period of rock/pop music (mid 70s to late 80s). Although with a few exceptions, we seem to be geared towards different things.

For anyone who could possibly care about my classic rock taste (nobody), these 70s lists are actually full of spicy takes :P

Brain Salad Surgery is way overrated (maybe ELP's 5th best album), Quadrophenia is just ok, Wild/Innocent/E Street Shuffle is actually Springsteen's single best album, Aladdin Sane is better than Ziggy, etc.

I've never gotten into much of it, besides the obvious highlights - in other words, mostly the stuff I already knew before I got the box set. But I'll re-appraise the full albums at some point.

I was referring to the remastering job.

Edited in a couple of corrections for my lists, because I'm doing them too fast I guess and I'm leaving out some all-time favorite records.

Added Neil Young's After the Goldrush at #3 for 1970, Yes' Close to the Edge at #10 for 1972

I don't have much to compare it to, but it sounds good to me. Riders on the Storm is an obvious sound highlight (and has always been a Botnick job).

Of course it is... and so is HUNKY DORY, YOUNG AMERICANS, STATIONTOSTATION, and "HEROES".

The only albums of his that could possibly qualify as better than Ziggy are Diamond Dogs, Low, Scary Monsters and Blackstar.

I put 5 albums as better than Ziggy.  Young Americans would probably be 12th or 13th.  I love the album, but as a whole, it's not at the level of his most brilliant work.  There's a only a small handful of Bowie records I straight up dislike, and a few more I'm kind of indifferent to.  But on the whole I like or love it all.

Lodger is the most underrated, it's a fucking masterpiece.

1. Hunky Dory

2. Lodger

3. Heroes

4. Aladdin Sane

5. Station to Station

6. Ziggy

7. Blackstar

8. Diamond Dogs

9. Low

10. Scary Monsters

Yes, in that it's the actual "new" album, but I do love vol. 2 as well for what it is, so I chose to leave it ambiguous and just say "Works" :P
