Edmilson 9,116
Speaking of Radiohead... I found it! I finally found the name of the song from them I was looking for six years, and I didn't even know it was Radiohead. For context: in May 2018 this song played in the final episode of a highly successful novela around here. I couldn't identity it then and my phone didn't have Shazam at the time. Then yesterday I was reading a blog about novelas and in its review of the series finale the blogger mentioned the name of the song. I didn't even believe it was Radiohead, for me it was like Belle & Sebastian or whatever lol. I don't know many Radiohead songs though, but I do really like this one and Codex (which I discovered thanks to Westworld's season 2 finale, which also aired in mid-2018). It's our version of soap operas. We call them "novelas" here. It used to be "telenovelas" (from television) to help differentiate it from "rádionovelas" (from radio, audio dramas that were quite popular in the 40s and 50s before television became popular). I don't like calling them soap operas because our novelas are quite different from the American soap operas like The Brave and the Bold or Days of Our Lives. If I understand correctly, these soap operas air during the day and they last for, like, decades. Our novelas air during primetime (especially on Globo, the biggest channel here) every day from Monday to Saturday. And they last for about 6 to 8 months before they finish. The closest we had from an American soap opera here was "Malhação", a novela targeted at teenagers that aired from 1995 to 2019 at about 5.30pm. But every year it changed characters and setting, so it was more like an anthology where every season is a new story.

GerateWohl 5,159
Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood formed the new band The Smile together with drummer Tom Skinner. And they more or less continued where Radiohead left off. Even a little bit back to the roots what I like. They still make great music and their concerts are marvellous. Big advantage: The Smile published 3 albums in 3 years, not like Radiohead at the end one album in 8 years.

I assumed that they did because of the title of this Rolling Stone article: Thom Yorke Doesn’t ‘Give a Flying Fuck’ if Fans Want a Radiohead Reunion You are right, now that I have found and read (kinda) the article, they have not officially broken up, but after 8 years of 'separation', there are still no plans for Radiohead to get together again. If they are still together then use of the word "reunion" is very misleading!
Thor 8,502
Many bands don't officially disband, it just turns out that way by its own accord. Supertramp (with or without Hodgson) has not officially disbanded, and all the members are still alive, but the likelihood of another tour or album or get-together in general is close to zero. GerateWohl 5,159
In regards to new material there is not much to miss with the Smile compared to Radiohead. Maybe it would be nice to hear some of the old songs at concerts. On the other hand, I personally would say, I have been to enough Radiohead concerts and at the last one I thought already, that this was too big and missed some of the fresh spirit, which I feel now perfectly restored with The Smile. And what should I be missing?
bespinGPT 8,852
Beau Dommage, a beloved Quebec folk-rock band from the 1970s, shaped the province’s musical culture with their storytelling and memorable melodies. Their remixed release of the classic second album, "Où est passée la noce?" brings a fresh take to the iconic songs that defined a generation. Here's the remix of "Un incident à Bois-des-Filion," THE 20-minute prog song by Beau Dommage. What is this song about? Here’s a quick translation of the first three verses: "An incident in Bois-des-Filion" I'm in love with a girl Who drowned between two islands She got lost between two waters With seaweed around her ankles, Her head held high like a reed She quietly vanished, She was here, but now she's gone It's nine o'clock, Ideal Beach, Just twenty minutes from Montreal And the search goes on... I'm not supposed to talk like this You don't rhyme when the one you love is drowning I don't know what to do with my two hands I feel like punching hard Into the still waters of the Mille-Îles River I don’t want to be there when their damn grapples... Marian Schedenig 9,149
Good old Timmer! LSH 1,062
Speaking of which: One of the finest downtempo electronica records ever… definitely in that particular era, at least. So many memories are connected with this album - not least my year in Australia in 2008-09. Just such a symbiotic thing. Tears flow. God, I wish I was in my early 20s again. Also, this was back when Sia Furler was making decent music.

Thor 8,502
Yeah, saw that earlier, on Facebook. I can't stand Jimmy Fallon, so had to block that out and just listen to what Gilmour said. A24 4,603
Weird! Why can't you stand Rick Beato? Because of his uneasy feeling interview with Parsons? It's not only good for him but also good for thousands and thousands of Gilmour and Pink Floyd fans who have been waiting for this.
Thor 8,502
To be fair, I've only sampled two of his videos in full. But I was supremely annoyed by his "John Williams is the most famous ever!" thing, and the Parsons was a shite interview that barely talked about Parsons! (it was 90% Beatles, Pink Floyd and technical gear). I might give him a third chance with Gilmour, but at one point enough is enough. I'm just not a big fan of his style.
A24 4,603
I find it weird because Beato goes much deeper into the technicalities of music that any other interviewer out there. And his style is more like having a conversation between musicians as opposed to the standard typical superficial magazine interview. It's really unexpected that you don't like that, Thor. I admit, he screwed up with Alan Parsons. Usually I can feel Beato's passion and admiration for a musician during an interview but with Parsons it simply wasn't there. I just discovered that I missed his very recent interview with Rick Wakeman. If only Richard knew! I'm not a fan of Wakeman as a solo artist but I love his period with YES. Anyway, I know what to do today.
Marian Schedenig 9,149
I ordered Sleigher, Ben Folds's new Christmas album, on Amazon, in time for the holidays. It's currently in stock: According to today's shipping update, it will be delivered between 8 and 11 February, 2025: …well, JPC has free shipping again, and has it in stock, signed, for less than €1 more. Thor 8,502
I was a weird 80s kid. I was more into 50s rock'n'roll and rockabilly than whatever the other class mates listened to. So this one, I got on cassette (original cassette, mind you, not copy!) some time between 1985 and 1989. Together with Chuck Berry, Bill Haley was one of the most influential rock artists of his time, also paving the way for other white folks, like Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis, doing what they did. Thor 8,502
Not a fan, no (so can't comment on specific albums, as I don't have any), but you can't live in this world without being exposed to their music over the years. And they had some smokin' good tunes, for sure! I'm fascinated by the whole cult surrounding them and Freddie. I was at Zanzibar some 15 years ago, and it was interesting to see how the whole capital was immersed in his memory. Our regular pub hangout was, predictably, a place called Mercury's. Thor 8,502
I love this 1985 album - the sleak production values, the melodies, the beats. Thor 8,502
I hated The Cure with a passion when I was a teen in the 90s. Those endless, mid-register, nagging songs. Went against everything I liked about music. But I've told myself I'm going to give them another chance now that I'm older, and my taste has changed somewhat. Not quite ready for it yet, but soon. Going to start from the beginning and move upwards. GerateWohl
