There's nothing wrong with ON THE SILENT WINGS OF FREEDOM, Alex!

But, yes, I tend to gravitate to the less well-known, more esoteric work by artists. I'm not sure why, I just find failure more fascinating then success. Also, I don't like being "one of the crowd" (right, Mel? :)).

A NIGHT AT THE OPERA? Nah! Give me HOT SPACE, any day.

SO? Give me SECURITY.

INVISIBLE TOUCH? Give me "abacab".

RUMOURS? Fuck that, I want TUSK!

Charles Aznavour wrote some beautiful original Christmas songs in French. I've just restored this italian version of "Noëls d'autrefois" (Christmases past).

Link to the song in Soundcloud

Bespin, there's an interview with Aznavour on TV right now! He says "I don't write about 'I love you'. I write about 'To love'. That's a big difference ..

I can't get this out of my head:

This song has everything in it that makes U2 great...awesome The Edge contributions with a catchy hook, deep and complicated lyrics, great structure.  This song is about Bono's love/hate relationship with his dysfunctional alcoholic dad who was abusive and left when he was 14.  Bono wrote the song after his dad died but he is actually saying even though he hated his dad, he really did love him.  Bono sings: " I know that we don't talk.  I'm sick of it all.  Can you hear ME WHEN I...SIIIIIIIIINNNNNGGGGG, you're the reason I SING!  You're the reason why the opera is in me."  His dad loved Italian opera like Puccini and Bono acknowledges this love of opera was passed into him and U2.  Even though he hated his violent dad,

"We fight all the time
You and I, that's alright
We're the same soul
I don't need, I don't need to hear you say
That if we weren't so alike
You'd like me a whole lot more

Listen to me now
I need to let you know
You don't have to go it alone

And it's you when I look in the mirror
And it's you when I don't pick up the phone
Sometimes you can't make it on your own"

I love, love this song.  Bono turned out to be a great father to his kids unlike his own family experience and has a very deep social responsibility that is so inspiring to see in a rock star.  I freaking love Bono.

Ask any of them, and I reckon they might refer you to the man pictured.

At any rate, let me know if you're going to continue being a petty twat, so I can just put you on ignore.

I hadn't heard the song before, but for me this one is hard to beat for pulling the heart strings about Father & Son relationship.

Nice!  I heard this song as a kid but didn't "hear" it until now. The 1980's had great tunes.

Way to go, Mel! This is my favourite Paul Simon song...ever.

Great, isn't it. All day at work the day after posting that, I was whistling those first 6 seconds or so on loop. It was stuck in my mind.

Me too, I so often used to be focused on the music rather than the lyrics. Increasingly I take in the full spectrum now.

Sade is something of a music icon. You can't even upload a picture...

properly good!

Hmmm. Loving those flat-as-a-pancake backing vocalists, at 9 seconds.

The rest of the song's really good, but WHEREVER I LAY MY HAT,

I'M GONNA TEAR YOUR PLAYHOUSE DOWN, and the masterful TOAST, are better.

Hey, I used to own that on a 45rpm single vinyl

I would also amuse myself occasionally by switching the setting to 33rpm, during play (example of this sort of lark) to hear it in a different dimension.

I was young :P

Marvellous. Jumpers for goalposts, etc.

While we're on the subject of Paul Young........................
