My Nephew, A Film Score Fan In The Making.

My nephew recently turned 6. He is obsessed with Star Wars so for his birthday I bought him the "Galactic Heroes" re-issue of the Millenium Falcon.

Needless to say it appears to be his favorite present.

He has also displayed a trait of picking up music and notes very quickly. You play something once and he can hum or sing it almost note for note. His interpretive dances to "Duel Of The Fates" and "The Imperial March" are something to behold but that's another story.

He's starting to enjoy film music and Star Wars has really increased his awareness of it. His only source of the music has been thru the films. When he was 2 or 3 I made him several compilations of themes and music I felt was proper for a little kid.

At his b-day party he was playing with his Falcon when he came up to me and started talking about the music when the MF escapes from the space slug in TESB. He then proceeded to hum the entire sequence, so I couldn't resist and joined in with him. Then we broke into the Raider's March because he mentioned he'd seen the commercial for the toy whip.

start giving him cdr's of the great filmmusic you have collected. You have it within you power to push him into the light and away from the darkside.

No, no! Don't push him! Let his interest progress naturally.

perhaps I should have said direct him, but do your best to keep the zimmer and MV scores away

I'd encourage anything and everything, even if its stuff you personally don't like. He's a kid, naturally he's not going to be very discriminating. I would just say that I like the Williams stuff the best, instead of knocking Zimmer. If he's a smart kid, he'll figure it out or ask you why you don't like something like POTC more than Star Wars and then you can elaborate more.

Go on! ;)

I have been shaping my 9-year-old godson's taste for a while and he is on the good way already. I have bought him mp3 player recently and presented with dvdr full of great film music mp3s - complete Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Lord of the Rings among others. ;) He really enjoys it

Well I'm not gonna overload the little guy with film music but if he listens to Zimmer it won't be from me.

But he can listen to whatever he wants.

Or rather, keep the RCP scores away. Let him have a taste of the Hans and Powell. A little Gregson is good for the soul too.

Nice job, a future boardie in the making.

Yea, I've been planning on brainwashing my future child to become a John Williams/film score fan since I became one.

better to euthanise the poor thing than do that, there are laws against child abuse you know.
