Every few days I will post a thread on a random score from my collection that we can discuss and rate. I made a playlist on my computer with one track of each score I've got, so by using the random play option, I'll be able to post a truly random score each time. Hopefully this will allow us to discuss some scores that would otherwise never be discussed. Also we can record the rating so that we can create a full list of the ratings given to scores by JWFan.com.

Today's score is Conan the Destroyer by Basil Poledouris. Are you familiar with it? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? How do do you think it works in the film? What are your favourite tracks?

So far JWFan has rated:

See Soundtrack Ratings by JWFan.com.

This web page contains the ratings from all my previous polls as well as those of Blumenkohl's.

Final ratings are converted to a 1-10 rating for both rating systems so that they can be compared.

This is Conan The Destroyer, not Conan The Barbarian.

Considering it was done in like 9 days it's surprising how good it actually is, but compared to the original, it is several marks down.

Some of the themes, while nice border on the cheese-factor, and the orchestra lacks the epic power of The Barbarian

One track though, Chrystal Palace gives me shivers every time I listen to it.

2.5 stars.

Crystal Palace is definitly the highlight; very good track indeed. Other than that I like the first track and there's some other nice tracks as well, but the end result is somewhat lacking, especially because there's no proper finale to the CD. It just... ends. I think 3,5 stars is fair for this one.

Holy poo. I misread the title!!!! Pieter please change it down to 3 stars! ;)
I can't. I don't have the power to change other people's votes. Hell; I don't even have the power to change my own. I can take it into account in the Excel file I have though if that's OK with you. But I don't want to make a habit out of changing votes; it can get REALLY confusing. ;)

I gave it four stars, which might be a little generous, but only a little. I think it's very good, although it's a huuuuuge step down from the first film. Really, though, how could it be anything else? After all, the movie is also a huge step down, and I think the score fares better than the film in that regard.

As other people have said, "Crystal Palace" is a glorious cue. I think that one is good enough to stand alongside the first film's score. Just terrific.

The rest of the score is less good, but I don't think any of it is bad.

I watched this film yesterday and noticed there's some pretty good music not on the OST, most notably the main title. I wouldn't mind seeing this one getting an expanded re-release. On the other hand, the reused music from the original film really stands out like a sore thumb, because it doesn't even work very well in the new scenes nor is it appropriate. The "Orgy" music while the girl is about to be sacrificed? Huh? :)

I also seem to have noticed some fair amount of music editing to have occurred. The new action music and heroic theme are used fairly frequently and I think some of that was tracked. Too bad.

The movie itself is somewhat enjoyable to me, but many parts of the story make no sense on any account. No great cinema to be sure.

I don't remember the score, I do remember that the movie is so incredibly bad.
