I will always feel that Gavin Greenaway's music for Epcots' "

" is the epitome for fireworks music.

Sadly, everything since I first saw and heard that has been judged by it. LOVE all 10 glorious minutes of it.

But the best is on the cd, so you get the bookends. Nice closure.

That...is not very Fireworky music.

Are you saying Handel failed?

Actually, I can't even remember now what it sounded like. Just seemed like a fitting title.

A few years ago, the Baltimore Symphony did an outdoor sci-fi fireworks concert. The first half of the program started at dusk and was the usual scifi themes, Superman, 2001, E.T., Star Trek with no fireworks. The second half of the program was all Star Wars and performed with fireworks. It worked amazingly well, even with quieter pieces like Princess Leia's theme and The Little People, they used smaller "quieter" fireworks. Of course for pieces like The Imperial March and Duel of the Fates it sent chills down your spine and everyone was going insane at the very end of Throne Room/Finale and the big finish. I can't think of a better program than that.

Did they make an exploding death-star out of fireworks?

No, but it was timed exceptionally well. Crescendos and timpani hits and even brass flourishes were accented with fireworks. It was amazing, and I've always wondered how much input the conductor had to the fireworks portion of the concert.

This isn't it, is it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HxOFX6CXVg

It starts with Pirates then goes into Star Wars and the fireworks start.

I agree. I never knew what is was or if there was a CD release though. Just happened to find it in someone's trading list, and it being Greenaway I got it.

Yeah, his music for both "Illuminations" and "Tapestry of Nations" (a retired Epcot parade) is really great. Has he ever composed anything else?

Also, the music from the current Magic Kingdom fireworks show "Wishes" is a really nice combination of classic Disney music and new score.

Has he ever composed anything else?

He is a long time collaborator with Hans Zimmer and team. He has never composed anything solo, as he mostly orchestrates, conducts, or provides additional music.

I must say.....I like the sound of that! Do you know where one can find the CD?

For the ultimate fireworks show

~ Empire of the Sun

All planned out with certain 'types' of fireworks (graceful slow and speedy rocket booms) and timed perfectly with the music.

It would be absolutely astounding. Just imagine it.

For example :

1:30 : Those mostly silent slowly rising streamers.

2:11 : Almighty booming firework.

2:24 : Cartwheels

Etc etc etc

So, here's the cue list I used for my home fireworks display (so much for fireworks being illegal in my state in the US)

1812 "Fesitval" Overture - Cincinnati Pops Orchestra (2002 Recording) - done before the fireworks until the cannons go off

Call of the Champions

American Journey

Sound the Bells

Summon the Heroes

Semper Fidelis March

Washington Post March

King Cotton March

The Thunderer March

and the obvious closer

The Stars and Stripes Forever

I would also like the CD as well. Never knew there was one until this thread.

For some reason, the Slave Children's Crusade.

EDIT: Now I remember why. I received the ToD soundtrack as a gift one evening, and the next morning we went to Disneyland for the first time, and at night they had the fireworks. Cryptonesia.
