Every few days I will post a thread on a random score from my collection that we can discuss and rate. I made a playlist on my computer with one track of each score I've got, so by using the random play option, I'll be able to post a truly random score each time. Hopefully this will allow us to discuss some scores that would otherwise never be discussed. Also we can record the rating so that we can create a full list of the ratings given to scores by JWFan.com.

On my holiday I listened to a fair few scores that I never really listened to before, so just for fun I'll be posting those next.

Today's score is The Wind and the Lion by Jerry Goldsmith. Are you familiar with it? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? How do do you think it works in the film? What are your favourite tracks?

So far JWFan has rated:

See Soundtrack Ratings by JWFan.com.

This web page contains the ratings from all my previous polls as well as those of Blumenkohl's.

Final ratings are converted to a 1-10 rating for both rating systems so that they can be compared.

This one gets a five-star rating from me. Good themes, good action music and some beautiful music as well. It's a bit heavy on the action stuff, but it's good, so I don't mind.

4 - Very good score, but overpraised in my opinion.

I'll echo that view. Wind and the Lion seems to be one of those 'fabled' scores that people first coming to the work of Jerry almost find themselves pressured to put up on a pedestal, when it's good but not THAT good compared to other works of his.

I... haven't heard this.

Whaaaaaat??????

A 5 star score by Goldsmith. A sweeping theme/ love theme and powerful action cues for the Raisuli, which probably inspired his Klingon theme for ST:TMP.

Marc's Goldsmith knowledge still leaves a lot to be desired!

Great 5... I heard it life in concert and bought it afterwards!

what a wounderful theme by Jerry Frenchhorn.. aka Goldsmith

And where might that have been? I've heard it live, too (twice, as far as I recall), but I had to go all the way to London (though with the added bonus of having Goldsmith himself conduct). Have I missed a more local performance?

I'll give it a 4.5... it's an excellent score, but one I don't play often enough, hence the -.5.
