Every few days I will post a thread on a random score from my collection that we can discuss and rate. I made a playlist on my computer with one track of each score I've got, so by using the random play option, I'll be able to post a truly random score each time. Hopefully this will allow us to discuss some scores that would otherwise never be discussed. Also we can record the rating so that we can create a full list of the ratings given to scores by JWFan.com.

On my holiday I listened to a fair few scores that I never really listened to before, so just for fun I'll be posting those next.

Today's score is Ice Age 2: The Meltdown by John Powell. Are you familiar with it? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? How do do you think it works in the film? What are your favourite tracks?

So far JWFan has rated:

See Soundtrack Ratings by JWFan.com.

This web page contains the ratings from all my previous polls as well as those of Blumenkohl's.

Final ratings are converted to a 1-10 rating for both rating systems so that they can be compared.

I really like this score, apart from the silly-stupid cues which I ignore. A very good score for an animated and at least worth 4 stars as far as I'm concerned. Still debating whether or not to give it that last 0,5 stars. Some nice themes and some good action music, that's for sure.

Good score. It suffers from your typical short cued score lack of consistancy....but it's a good listen throughout. I like the main theme a lot.

A lot of Powell's animated scores have many short cues, most recently with Horton. However, a lot of them are seamless, so 4 or 5 tracks fit together.

As for Ice Age, really great music, I give it a 4.5

3. Average.

I think it was a mistake to not bring back David Newman for this one, and to drop all thematic continuity from the first score, which established a firm set of truly memorable themes and ideas.

The score on its own though, disregarding the first score, doesn't quite hit the spot for me. Some nice themes, but particularly some of the action sequences didn't really make a good listen for me.

You may have copy/pasted a bit too much, judging by your second post.
Woops; thanks for noticing that. Fixed it now. I indeed accidentally copy-pasted some The Wind and the Lion stuff.

BTW: 4,5 it is. :P
