Don S Davis, best known for his role as General Hammond in Stargate SG1 and Capt William ("Ahab") Scully, father of Dana Scully from the X-Files, died on 29 June after a heart attack.

I was surprised by this because he died almost 2 weeks ago and I haven't seen anything here about it. I always liked him as an actor.

Actually it was mentioned at several other message boards at the time of his passing.

He had one of the few entertaining moments in Con Air.

R.I.P.

This is what we call "dog salmon". Comes out really dry and a bit grey lookin'.

Damn. You remember that? But I don't think the northern hemispherians would know what we are on about.

Don S. Davis was at Dragon*Con a few years back, and I saw him speak at a big Stargate panel. He seemed to be a very cool guy -- he started talking about what the fans meant to him, and got visibly choked up while thanking people for the interest they took in his work. It was a very touching moment, and an obviously sincere one.

I'll always think of the X-Files episode "Beyond the Sea" when I think of Davis. He plays Scully's father in that episode. I rewatched it just the other day, and was mildly surprised by how little screen time he has in the episode. It's literally just a minute or two. And yet, my mind always tricks me into thinking he's in it a lot more. I guess that says something good about the impact he had in the role.
