Every few days I will post a thread on a random score from my collection that we can discuss and rate. I made a playlist on my computer with one track of each score I've got, so by using the random play option, I'll be able to post a truly random score each time. Hopefully this will allow us to discuss some scores that would otherwise never be discussed. Also we can record the rating so that we can create a full list of the ratings given to scores by JWFan.com.

Today's score is Jaws 2 by John Williams. Are you familiar with it? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? How do do you think it works in the film? What are your favourite tracks?

So far JWFan has rated:

See Soundtrack Ratings by JWFan.com.

This web page contains the ratings from all my previous polls as well as those of Blumenkohl's.

Final ratings are converted to a 1-10 rating for both rating systems so that they can be compared.

Sadly overlooked score due to the great succes of the first, but I think there isn't anyone who has listened to this that didn't love it. The end credits piece is one of my favorites.

Great score. On the album it works better than the original, as far as I am concerned. In the context of the movie, however, it's nowhere as stunning as the first Jaws (let alone Jaws 2 [the movie] wasn't good movie anyway)

I like how Williams throws out any hints of subtelty, one of the great successes of the original score, and just goes with all out action from start to finish. A very fun listen, and as Marc mentioned one of the great End Credits pieces.

great but people need to quit this foolish talk that its as good as Jaws, its not, but its very good on its own.

Four stars.

I like Jaws 2 (the score, that is -- never seen the movie), but I don't share the love for it that some of you seem to have. In no sense do I consider it to be as good as Jaws, but that's based only on the CD and not the full score, so maybe I'm missing something.

I did a breakdown of the score for Jaws 2 awhile back and there's maybe 5 minutes missing.

I had a feeling that was probably the case.

Eventually, I'd like to see all the movies John Williams has scored, just so I have a better appreciation of the scores. But this is probably the movie I'm the least interested in seeing, as it strikes me as being one of the most unnecessary sequels of all time. At some point, though, I'll probably break down and give it a look, as it's impossible for it to alter my high regard for the original, and therefore there is no potential harm in seeing the sequel.

I think it's an underrated flick. Unnecessary, probably, but it takes a different approach to the first movie and still works pretty well. It helps that it's tied together by a pretty great Scheider performance.

It's definetly not the worst film JW has scored, IMO. It tends to drag a lot, but it still is okay. Nowhere NEAR the original, obvbiously.

Luckily, I watched the movie again just yesterday. A great score, though not so groundbreaking as the first one, this one is more lyrical and overall more complex. 4,5 from me.

Actually Jaws 2 isn't that bad of a film. It does lack the element of suprise because we've seen the shark but there are some good moments and Scheider delivers a good performance.

While it obviously takes second place to its predecessor's sheer impact and inventiveness, there's some phenominal music here and - IMHO - it provides a better overall listening experience. Definitely one of JW's most underrated scores...

I only now the End Title cue from the Filmtracks album. Didn't see the movie either. The End Title is fantastic, but not enough to judge the entire score on.

4 stars. From an album point of view, I'd actually say it's better than the first one. While Jaws has some wonderful stuff (the seafaring music, obviously, and some others), it really is a bit dry as a full-length album release. Of course, as a film score, it's top. But for pure listening, the sequel has more nice stuff.
