Every few days I will post a thread on a random score from my collection that we can discuss and rate. I made a playlist on my computer with one track of each score I've got, so by using the random play option, I'll be able to post a truly random score each time. Hopefully this will allow us to discuss some scores that would otherwise never be discussed. Also we can record the rating so that we can create a full list of the ratings given to scores by JWFan.com.

I'd like to have some of my favourite scores discussed before I leave for half a year, so the next scores won't be random. At least they'll be well-known. Hope you don't mind. :)

Today's score is Conan the Barbarian. You can rate both the score by Basil Poledouris and the film.

Are you familiar with it? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? How do do you think it works in the film? What are your favourite tracks?

So far JWFan has rated:

See Soundtrack Ratings by JWFan.com.

This web page contains the ratings from all my previous polls as well as those of Blumenkohl's.

Final ratings are converted to a 1-10 rating for both rating systems so that they can be compared.

The film is great trash, and I was pleasantly surprised the first time I saw it. But I have no desire to ever see it again.

5 for the score; couldn't possibly rate it any lower.

3.5 for the movie. Not bad, but not outstanding.

For the score: Do you have to ask? (Although I don't consider it completely in a league of its own, Poledouris has two or three other scores that are up there with 5 stars).

Movie: I've seen it once, long ago, and found it very drawn out and dumb. But as I don't recall anything other than about two lame Schwarzenegger quotes, I voted "not familiar".

score 5,

film 2. I much preferred the low budget but IMHO superior Sword and the Sorcerer which came out at almost the same time, funny thing they both made virtually the same amount of money.

A 5 for the score and a 3 for the film.

Gotta love James Earl Jones as Thulsa Doom.

Ditto! It's a score I would love to hear from start to finish in a concert hall!

Naturally its from 1982, the great year of cinema in the last 50 years.

No, Alex thinks that Blade Runner is the only great movie to have been made in the past 30 years. It's I who disagrees.

We agree far more often than you'd like to admit, my Dutch friend. Same for me and Joe.

If I could rate the score higher I would and the film is great.

My favourite track is the start of The Kitchen/The Orgy that includes Zoe Poledouris' contribution. I'm just waiting on the complete score to be released.

before I leave for half a year, so the next scores won't be random.
This Wednesday I am leaving to sail on a cruiseship again until pretty much the end of the year. Before that time I would like to post some of my favourite scores to be discussed, so I'll be posting those next instead of random ones. Or did you mean something else by your question? ;)

We thought you would not be posting for 6 months because you were serving a jail sentence for exposing yourself to an 8 year old.....
Impressive. I had even explained the reason for my absence the first time I ever said I would be gone for a while. ;)

I'm Dutch too. At least, I'm supposed to be.

4,5 for the score for me. The good parts are amazing, but some parts I find not so interesting.

3 stars for the film. Nice enough, but not impressive.

I know you are, Pieter. Just watch the movie. ;)
I will... one day. Like I said in another thread, the past few years I have been trying to catch up on my... lack of cinematical education.

Nope, that's what I was wondering.

Have fun sailing on the cruiseship!
