It's up to $100. Ouch.

Given that I'm not as familiar as some with the SW universe (ok, not at all), how close to complete have any of our resident music editors got when including the video game material, etc?

For Episode II there's very little that can be gotten from video games. The cue at the beginning with Obi-Wan and Anakin in the elevator and then reuniting with Padme (with the statement of Anakin's theme cut out ;) ), the complete chasing Dooku cue right before the final duels (which is partially on the OST), most of the transitional fanfares, and some bits and bobs of the final duels. The only thing that can be ripped anything close to clean off the DVD is Shmi's funeral.

Just out of curiosity, I e-mailed the seller asking to have some clips from the CD. It is indeed just a DVD rip, with various trickeries and substitutions from TPM and all sorts of stuff. Don't buy it.

Don't buy bootlegs from eBay, except if it's from a seller from Toto's Hole. I can vouch for him, I own a few of the CD's he sells. I won't list him here because I'm sure someone will probably have a problem with it and report something. He's got plenty of classic scores in unreleased and expanded form. All the quality from an actual release, but unofficial.

There was a rumor of a 2 c.d. Attack of the Clones promo floating around since Sony was going to release it at some point. I still think some people have it.

What if it turns up like Family Plot

Are the rips any cleaner that what we've already got? (I doubt it)

I don't think so. There was some manipulation done to get rid of sound effects; for example, in "Anakin's Confession" the statement of the Emperor's theme was replaced with a statement of the Emperor's theme from TPM.

Well if he's intentionally scamming people for money I guess he figured it'd be worth it. I'd love to get paid 100+ bucks for one of my editing jobs. Legitimate editing jobs, I might add.

Final bid was $102.50.

I'm not suprised, there's still a 2 CD bootleg set of Alien that was making the rounds before Intrada released theirs and it still appears on eBay for a ridiculously high price.

Some guy trying to flog the Two Towers CR for £90 ($170 or so)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LORD-OF-THE-RINGS-TW...id=p3286.c0.m14

if they are out of print its feasible.

At least it is not a bootleg with crappy sound

what's up with these releases why are they soo hard to find are they limited or so?

Who wants to buy John Williams cds while he's still alive?? Wait for the old codger to kick the can and then flog all your JW-related material of ebay.

Does the "Far and Away" cd come with....potatoes?

Neither were here. I suppose that FOTR didnt had good sales on european physical stores. And since it could be cheaper and earlier to buy them on the net , most people took that option.

None of these are out of print Luke. RotK may be hard to come by but last I heard they're coming back soon.

I've never seen any of the CRs in a physical store - kinda makes sense given that the more casual music fan isn't really the target market for them.

Which incidentally has always made me think that those press releases with some executive saying how amazing the music is, were completely inappropriate considering who was going to shell out for these sets, and the fact that it was the guy who's going to make loads of money from it singing the praises.

It's a bit like Bruckheimer's interview snippets for At World's End just as it was coming out - there are some people whose opinions I don't take into account when deciding whether to buy/watch something. Although in Jerry's case, he lost me when he said 'Hans always comes up with something fresh and new'

I only ever saw FOTR CR in the FYE in my local shopping mall, which isn't too noteworthy because I live in the middle of nowhere. I ordered both TTT and ROTK CR's online (Barnes & Noble, and Amazon, respectively) because they offered them more affordably than FOTR had been in the store. That's not to say FYE wouldn't order them from an online distro, but I figure it'd be a huge risk for your average non-specialty store, like Walmart, to buy a few of those CR box sets, and have them just collect dust since they're outside the price range and interest level of most consumers.

My local Best Buy has been sitting on two copies of ROTK since its release. Barnes and Noble, both of the one I frequent, both have carried FOTR and TTT, I've never seen them sell out. So at least in my area these have never been hard to find.

I've been told that Amazon has all 3 back in stock and they're generally all back in the supply chain now.

I don't think stores sitting on copies of soundtracks is limited to the CRs though. The HMV I visited at uni a few years ago had a small and mostly overpriced soundtrack selection, and particularly had a £5 copy of Back to the Future for half the year before I relieved them of it.

I secretly wish I could find a store sitting on the Transformers score...the resale value is amazing! :)

That's about the only things it's useful for.
