Koray Savas 2,095
Both, but I suppose I will vote for film since that is what I became interested in first.I can't believe Michael Bay led me to my love for John Williams.

Koray Savas 2,095
Yes, but for people like us, film and music usually goes hand in hand, it's very hard to pick one over the other.I picked film only for the fact that it's what got me into scores. indy4 152
A good poll is one that makes you think, and a "both" option eliminates the need for that.

Richard Penna 2,082
Film music. I watch a film maybe once a week. I listen to music every day.
Bryant Burnette 451
What I am first and foremost?First and foremost, I'm sick of polls. Then why get involved in one? Nobody is making you be a part of it. I'm sure at least a few of us wish that you weren't.As for myself, it's film, and it's not even a close contest. I've been led to a few scores I love without the benefit of having seen the movies (and a few others for films I've seen and dislike), but it's a short list. However, the list of films I like or love and have almost no interest in their scores outside of the context of the film would be very, very lengthy. Koray Savas 2,095
Film music. I watch a film maybe once a week. I listen to music every day.Well it is a lot easier to listen to a 2-4 minute cue or song than it is to watch a 90-180 minute film.

King Mark 2,924
I am a fan of films like everyone else ,but a fan of film music in the sense that I only care about film music that works as pure music to listen to. You'll never see me praising a film score that is unlistenable on c.d. because "it works great in the film " .I am not "how well a score works in relation to the movie" type of film score fan. Jeshopk 8
I find myself watching less movies than I used to. To me there is more quality in film music than a majority of films. There are great movies with bad music, and bad movies with great music. So it's a bout even for me. Actually, there are probably more "watchable" movies then there are "listenable" scores, IMO (at least in modern times).

ChuckM 1
Assuming that we are talking about the realm of entertainment and not life in general, I would have to go with film music.

Those are the people that overpraise Jerry Goldsmith,There are very few scores that are unlistenable on CD and your Goldsmith comment is a load of crap. You can't except the fact that he is beloved almost as much as Williams.
Koray Savas 2,095
Goldsmith was a genius composer, up there with the likes of Williams, Korngold, Rosza, Steiner, Morricone, Herrmann, Elmer Bernstein, and Alfred Newman.
Williamsfan301 11
Anytime I see an ad for a new movie, the very first thing I check is who wrote the music. Director, actors, writers all come second. So, yeah I'm a fan of film music before film. And Goldsmith was a genius.

Neimoidian 13
I am a film music fan. This is my passion, I write about film music and review the albums, I am interested what new is on the market, I discover old releases and like to learn about the good, but unknown composers... As for the movies, I used to care more about them. Now I watch very few.I am a fan of films like everyone else ,but a fan of film music in the sense that I only care about film music that works as pure music to listen to. Quintus 5,391
I asked the exact same same question about 2 years ago. http://jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10583&hl=For the score die-hards, the film itself is merely a means to an end. For me, the film will always come first. Of course it will.

Wojo 2,442
Wait, whaa?? You can't have a "first and foremost, part 2!" Anything that admits it's part 2 is clearly not first, which means it's also not foremost. This thread itself is pure rubbish to begin with. Rubbish!
