filmmusic 1,829
If anyone has 4K resolution on his pc he can see the difference here: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&d1=6851&d2=6625&s1=64726&s2=62426&i=9&l=0 or downscaled to 1080p: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=4&d1=6851&d2=6625&s1=64726&s2=62426&i=9&l=0&max_height=1080
Jay 37,363
Of course the difference can be seen when the image is blown up, on a monitor right in front of your face. Hence why I said "at standard viewing distance"
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Dont see myself upgrading from 1080 any time soon. Even 720 looks pretty damn good to me. (The Harmy Star Wars edits for instance)
Jay 37,363
On my 46" TV 720p and 1080p look great. Maybe if we get a 65" for the new house, I'd consider getting a 4K instead of 1080p if the price isn't drastically different.

Unlucky Bastard 7,782
In the local paper, I saw a factory seconds ad listing for a 55" LG OLED for $1,000, reduced from $3,000 because of a "screen blemish". Whatever that means.

Unlucky Bastard 7,782
I wonder how a film like ID4 will stand up to scrutiny in 4K. It was made in that awkward phase where CGI wasn't as hi-res as it is today, so those CGI elements in the film will likely look upscaled. Weren't CG effects rendered in 2K back then? The practical effects work will be fine though.
A24 4,333
Better! Look at Jurassic Park! The sharpness is outdated but the softness tends to work as some kind of masking. (not that I want to see ID4 ever again, mind you)

I can't exactly count the pixels in the end credits text on a Blu-ray, but I can see that it's still slightly pixelated. I haven't yet seen 4K myself, but I'm sure it's warranted for a decent home theatre setup.

Disco Stu 15,495
I'm so happy that Criterion is putting out a proper release for McCabe & Mrs. Miller. It's for sure my favorite Robert Altman movie. Maybe this isn't the thread for it but I think this would be my Top 5 Robert Altman ranking: 1. McCabe & Mrs. Miller 2. Short Cuts 3. Nashville 4. The Long Goodbye 5. Gosford Park

MASH I appreciate for jumpstarting Altman's career as a major director but think it hasn't aged well at all. The Player I love a lot, it just wouldn't be among my 5 favorites. Popeye I'd categorize more as an interesting failure than an actual good movie. Images I still haven't seen and really need to! The other 2 were pretty unremarkable to me.
