This is Bluray news for me, so I post it here.

My viewing of Titanic, one of my favourite movies, is ruined now that I found out that there were some CG alterations on the Bluray, with the one that bugs me more being the different sunset backgound in the iconic scene!!

I watched the Bluray only once, and I had a feeling something was wrong (I thought it was due to the color change), but I hadn't realised the change was that much!

The new version looks better.

Filmmusic hates it only because it's new. He always prefers old stuff.

I don't like it because:

1) the version on the left is the one I saw at cinema and loved

2) I'm against any kind of alterations to movies, even if they mean to "fix" things!

Should then all matte paintings in old movies be subtituted with CGI ones?

Scientific research has shed new light on what excatly the waether patterns were on the days that Titanic sailed, and Cameron, always a stickler for accuracy, has updated his film to reflect these new facts.

It's all about honoring the victims!

So if the version on the right had been the one that was shown in the cinema and the version on the left was the new version, you'd prefer the version on the right?

2) I'm against any kind of alterations to movies, even if they mean to "fix" things!

Why?

Should then all matte paintings in old movies be subtituted with CGI ones?

Yes.

1) Probably yes.

2) Because I want the films to reflect the historic backgound, technology and human error of the era they were created.

Fortunately they didn't erase the cameraman reflection on the door!

By the way, just for information, here's the alterations in Aliens too:

I can't understand why the scratches on the window is a goof.

Don't windows have scratches in the real world?

By the way, seeing this again, I can't help missing the old cold color timing... :(

i think it was very appropriate for the movie.

What cameraman, on what door?!

Anyway, they took out the snake in "ROTLA". Boo! Shame!

I thought this was the most notorious "goof" in Titanic!

Anyway, it seems more evident, when you see the video.

The scratches were there before Ripley used the chair, so that's a goof.

For what it's worth, Aliens and Titanic look spectacular on blu-ray. I can't watch them any other way now.

I understand that. But couldn't the window have just some scratches from the past, eg. when the colonists were there?

it didn't necessarily mean that the scratches were caused by the chair that was used afterwards, so that would be a goof.

Anyway..

You mean you prefer the teal color timing?

The "colour" of "Aliens" is blue, anyway, so there's not too much difference. IMO it make it look more authentic, although, looking at the stills again, the ones on the left, look as though they have all been ENRd.

I don't mind those Aliens changes.

Though in general agree that goofs don't need to be fixed

Wow thanks for the head's up, Tim! I was just looking at my Miyazaki Blu collection yesterday and wondering when Spirited Away would get released on it!

It's too bad it'll never drop below $20!

I'm purchasing the Japanese Blurays (each is around $50-60)! :P

But they have fantastic cases and much better video quality (The US Disney ones have been DNRed slightly from what I know and have seen)!

Here's Spirited Away that has been released one year ago:

You would think as it is, that the case would open freely, but there is a magnet in the edge to keep it closed.
