The odds for Intrada's release tonite are leaning toward Elmer Bernstein's Desire Under the Elms (1958).

The Omega Man, among your normal crowd of film music fans, is a highly requested title that was intially issued by FSM and went out of print. The re-use fees are small plus Lukas was able to correct some faulty issues with the original release. Plus it is now an unlimited release.

Not only did people buy a score that was supposed to be limited, it now also turns out it was flawed.

I think the decent thing to do is to send people who already bought a copy of this years ago a free copy of the new and apparently improved version.

No, I have never owned nor an I planning to own this score.

But FSM has never been above an occasional scam when it comes to "limited". Like the time they found a box of The Towering Inferno CD's that had fallen under the cracks a few years back and peddled them for a whad of cash.

For many collectors, the words "Limited Edition" does hold a value.

Hmmm...that maybe the case for one of the titles...but there are two special collection titles tonight both at 3,000 copies. If one of them is a Bernstein score I'll skip it. Depending on what the other is I might be skipping that too.

Actually the release I'm really curious about is LaLa Land's 2-CD set release next Friday (the 31st).

Intrada is only releasing one title tonite.

No one is getting shafted, I don't assign a dollar value to my CDs so I don't care if they get re-released down the line.

Lukas explained that he also got tired of seeing copies go for $100.00 on Ebay so he figured why not re-coup some of that money for FSM. I thought his Towering Inferno deal was great because it helped them move inventory and kept the greedy people from snatching them up.

For all the good he's done I have no problem if he wants to go back and re-visit an older title. I have no plans to purchase it either but this is great for those who missed out on the original.

There's only one release tonight. because Jeff Bond is still on vacation.

Wow, great! I might just pick this up.

Let's hope they'll also reissue The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno!

I don't really agree with you, Steef. I think FSM has always been very honest. Much more honest than Varèse or Intrada - FSM has been the only company who has really kept releasing CDs not only to have them released and rescued from oblivion, but also to keep them around for a while for future generations, while they had plenty of opportunities to release older and obscure scores in much more limited quantities.

And the only people who're going to be hurt by this release are the eBay people and speculators, and I have little respect for those people.

I really hope this becomes a more or less 'regular' practice for out of print titles...

Wrong Jeff.

I don't get the negative reaction that some people are having towards this over at FSM. It just goes to show how many of them are actually in this for the "investment" rather than the music.

Agreed. It baffles me as well that there's negativity towards this sort of thing. When I buy CD's I'm buying them for myself and to keep them. I have no plans to resell them.

Surely we buy these film score cd's because we want the music, not because we want one of 3,000 copies of something. Sure, from a collectability point of view, I like the fact that i've got a 1st edition blue box, or the Knight Rider cd, or Masters Of The Universe etc etc, but I would still be just as glad to own them if someone re-released them. I bought them because I love the music. They were Limited releases because that's what it took to get them released. It had no effect on my buying them, only maybe the time frame in which i had to do it. Think it bothers me that there was a second edition of the Blue Box? Not one bit. If anything I'm happy that more people have access to it.

I don't get the attitude some people have when it comes to releases of this kind. FSM are doing an awesome job in my eyes, and this re-release of the omega man has just put them even higher up in my estimation.

Like I stated on FSM, I don't give a damn if the limited editions I have get re-issued. Hell that would just make it so others who missed out on the first run can get a chance to own it on the reissue and I'd be happy about that. Those who bitch about it are truly in it for the money.
