The gay parable thing is what makes it rise above the rest of the series, since Singer created something that was personal to him. You can tell when a director's got his/her heart in it.

Iceman's "coming out" scene is near cringe worthy in its cliche-ness.

It's one of the best scenes in the film. You're just a cynical bastard.

I agree with Koray. The metaphor was already perfectly clear in that film and the first one. The "Mom, Dad... there's something I need to tell you" scene really feels like Singer is S P E L L I N G out the already very obvious.

It would be OK if the writing in the scene was any good. but there's a line in the scene "Bobby, have you tried...not being a mutant?"

I mean, fuck of!

Sure it's been done to death in TV movies... but X2 was released in 2003. I don't think it was quite so cliched at that point.

Dude! It felt like a fucking cliche when i saw the film in 2004!

You do know film and TV existed before the 90's right?

It's a common question a certain section of the population gets asked frequently!

That doesn't excuse the poor writing and the one dimensional depiction of the situation.

If i were Gay, or a mutant, that scene would not encourage me to come out!

You don't get that

you don't get it. The point is it does not encourage.

There's a big difference here. Mutants have awesomely scary and destructive powers. Gays don't. Either way, the parents get to face they're not getting conventional grandchildren.

While I thought that line and the whole scene's delivery was a bit showy, it does throw some light on the ridiculousness of some homosexual situations like that. Plenty of people probably asked their kids if they could try to not be gay. A lot of people still think it's a choice.

Who we are may not be a choice, but what we do and how we live are choices. That being said, suppressing our inherent natures and the need to love and be loved is no way to live.

Just watched it. Can this even be considered a remake? It's more like a new story that steals some of the original's ideas. Plot and setup all seem fairly different.

Might be a decent action film, but it will be forgotten a year later, like the Total Recall remake was.

Dredd was a great film, that had nothing to do with that terrible adaptation in the 90s. It was a great action film that unfortunately had terrible marketing and no one bothered to show up. Anyone who enjoys good straight up action movies, I completely recommend the movie. The filmmakers completely understood the character from the comics and made a great movie to boot.

He does not even look like a Robot, he just looks like a guy in a costume. Weller moved like a walking tank, his look sans the visor was disturbing and actually felt biomechanical. And why does everything look like an Apple product in Hollywood nowadays?

I think the Total Recall remake was forgotten before it even came out.

Then why do you guys keep talking about it?

And why does everything look like an Apple product in Hollywood nowadays?

Because that's an iRobocop.

I don't like action movies but I loved Dredd ... so fans of action movies might somehow not like it. (be warned, Jason!)

Personally, I like Dredd because it's visually immersive and its Metal Hurlant (Heavy Metal) factor is high.

Data is a machine but doesn't walk like one. Human Cylons are some kind of machine that can still bleed and screw, but they don't walk like machines. A Terminator doesn't walk like a machine until it gets its skin ripped off. Why would you expect the new Robocop to thus walk like it has a chrome two by four stuck up its ass?

It was one of the many great things about the original, How menacing that slow, hulking walk was. And brings about much more efficiently the half man-half machine angle. In this one, he just looks like a guy in a suit. He should be called Suitcop
