Would you say that watching it is a.....tradition....in your household?

TRADITIOOOOOOOOOOOOON

Seriously though... Not really, as I'm not Jewish. But the message the movie presents is universal.

The Master is probably my least favorite one. Sorta lost interest during the second half.

BTW, it's funny how Witherspoon looks entirely film noirish while Phoenix doesn't.

I still don't know what to think about that one. It probably went over my head, with no fault on the filmmaker's part

I thought The Master was incredible.

It was a great movie. Hard to decipher though. Fantastic performances, and very good score.

Is this a film noir? I thought we were getting something closer to the Boogie Nights vibe.

I'm a huge PTA fan but I also haven't seen The Master. I was put off a bit by a good friend whose opinion I trust who said it wasn't that good. We were both really excited by the trailers though.

Like I said, too much close-ups. It's like Legend, it starts off beautiful with lots of long and medium shots, but after a while all you get to see are actors' faces.

Last week, I went to see the 3D IMAXed-up "The Wizard Of Oz" (not bad).

Anyway, they were running a trailer for "Paddington". The other people in the theatre must have thought I was having a meltdown, or something, because I guffawed my way through it! basically, the trailer consisted of Paddington's (mis)adventures in the Brown's bathroom. Funny, or what? Can't wait for the movie! And it has the lovely Hugh Bonneville. If I ever had a man-crush, it would be over Hugh Bonneville...

I finished the book last week and I have even less of an idea what to expect. I enjoyed it but it's pretty far out, a series of truly bizarre situations and characters which overpower the convoluted and at times nonsensical mystery at the center. It's definitely not going to be a straight film noir, early reports have compared it more to a cross between The Big Lebowski and The Long Goodbye with a bit of Airplane! and Cheech & Chong thrown in for good measure.

From Hitfix's report:

"It's BONKERS — weird, weird, weird," one person who saw the film told me. "It made me laugh out loud several times, but not in the ways you might expect. The humor is not so much 'Boogie Nights,' as I think a lot of people are expecting. For reals, it tips into, like, Zucker Bros.-level gags and broad humor. But, obviously, mixed with his other sensibilities. Strange, beguiling tone."

Others who have seen it have mentioned that certain moments had a "Big Lebowski" vibe. "It's a sui generis mix of broad comedy, suspense, romance, melancholy and a touch of menace — unlike anything I can think of," said another.

I'm told Josh Brolin stands out in the supporting ranks and that Martin Short's work as a druggie dentist is "batshit insane." Another compared the film to Robert Altman's "The Long Goodbye," starring Elliot Gould, "but amped up to 11."

Paul Thomas Anderson talks more about that cross between noir and slapstick comedy in this New York Times article, while avoiding speculation on Thomas Pynchon's involvement. ;)

Looks funny! Actually, after There Will Be Blood and The Master, it was about time PTA lightened up a bit.

Yes!

Yeah, it looks good! Refreshing change of direction!

Yes!

Trailer doesn't look too good.

Yes!

And here's the trailer and poster! Finally!

I don't normally watch trailers but after noticing someone say it looks funny I hit play and watched the first minute before switching it off. Don't want to spoil any more of the jokes. Trailers for comedies are particularly avoidable.

Not fancied a PTA movie for years, so this is good.

Due to the "success" of Tusk, KSmith was able to get funding to film Clerks III

Wow. Bale pulling his "You're being unprofessional" line on God!

Don't know what to think of it. Could turn out great, but could end up being pretty bad too... Bale as Moses is an odd of casting for sure.
