RUMOR: George Clooney and Brad Pitt courting Edward Berger to direct Ocean's 14

I guess that Margot Robbie / Ryan Gosling Ocean's prequel movie is dead?

I'd be there for OCEAN'S 14 in a heartbeat.

It would be even better if it they brought back Zeta Jones and Roberts.

Not much you can do about Carl Reiner, but I hope that there's a nice tribute in film.

I thought Ocean's Eleven was great fun but when I read about the 'meta' part of the plot in Ocean's Twelve revolving around how Julia Roberts' character looks really like ... Julia Roberts, I was discouraged from seeing it (and still haven't) because if you run with that logic and start thinking about how Clooney's character looks really like Clooney, Pitt's looks really like Pitt etc etc etc the suspension of disbelief goes out the window and the movie falls apart.

I hated Ocean's Twelve when I saw it (which was ages ago, but still). I had really enjoyed Ocean's Eleven, but 12 was just terrible. 13 was a slight improvement but not enough unfortunately.

Never seen the female spin-off though.

That shtick is the whole enchilada. They're not trying to suspend your disbelief, they're asking you to embrace it. If you're not onboard with that, those movies just aren't going to work for you.

They didn't do it in Eleven, really. So probs just as well I stopped there. I guess.

I didn't really have a problem conceptually with the idea of Tess looking like Julia Roberts. It's a funny joke and I don't necessarily need to follow the logic that all the other characters would look like their counterparts.

But I think throwing Bruce Willis into the mix breaks it. I get that having her run into another celebrity is a natural obstacle to keep the stakes high, but he's so overly protective of "Jules" and immediately hostile to the crew that it pushes the awkwardness.

It also might have helped to have Damon offscreen like Clooney and Pitt...you're not gonna assume anybody would so easily recognize Scott Caan. Once you have Bruce Willis-as-himself buying into Julia Roberts-as-Tess-as-Julia while facing off with Matt Damon-as-Linus, it's weird. But that discomfort was probably what delighted Soderbergh the most.

Ah! You mean "Introducing Tess, as Julia Roberts".

Wait until you get to the bit where Tess has a telephone conversation with Julia Roberts

Didn't the Oceans movies have a number of celebrities as themselves? I seem to remember Topher Grace at least.

"Geez, Topher, you didn't have to go all Frankie Muniz on me"

There are plenty of cameos: Grace; Bruce Willis; Joshua Jackson; Angie Dickinson, and a few others who I can't remember.

All three films are great fun, but my favourite is OCEAN'S 12.

"I hear German girls are hot".

Of course, it helps when the Gooners  are in it :)

I find this kind of picture distasteful while a candidate is running. Or even is in office. I thought the same with Stone's W. I was shocked to discover that PT109 (the opposite of this situation) was made while JFK was in office.

I admit I would be far more interested if these sort of films would be arguing against interest. (Oliver Stone's Donald Trump: American Hero could be hell of a thing to see, yeah?) This, W, and PT-109 are the least surprising takes on a president one might imagine.

I can get on board with what you’re saying, although I like to think that it’s reassuring that we (still, so far) live in a place where one is not just allowed but often encouraged (by creative impulse or the possibility of profit) to make critical or parodic content like this at times when it would be inconvenient for the target. We would be much diminished if that were to disappear.

Tried to watch it on its recent UK terrestrial TV premiere ... I quit at about the halfway mark. Billed as an action adventure but there'd been precious little action by that stage, plus it was slow and utterly humourless. Shame, as it had an absolutely 'stacked' cast. Some admittedly striking visuals, I'll give it that.

Not quite sure why.

The Orkneys are north east, and I'm north west :)

Are you that far up into Scotland? Somehow I thought you lived near the border with England.

Go to Inverness, on a map, and hang a hard left. Head left until you come to a stretch of water, with a group of islands. No, not those islands. Head further west until you come to another group of islands.

That's me.
