Lawyer of A24: Your honor, may I remind the court that my client has chosen to post this important news about an upcoming movie in an entirely different thread, namely, the Upcoming Films thread.

Ah, Hollywood continues to mine the 1980s for ideas... We'll know we've reached the bottom when a live-action 'SilverHawks' is announced.

It's sad that Horner isn't alive to score it ☹️

Sure but it’s even worse that there are people alive who want to make it.

Ghostbusters '5' is happening

I love Ghostbusters, but how many apocalyptic threats can they face before the formula becomes stale? Some would say it already has.

If the post-credits scene for Frozen Empire is correct, then it's going to be focused on the Mini Pufts, and... yeah, they added a bit of macabre comedy to Afterlife, but they definitely are not enough to carry a film on their own, unless they're going for Stay Puft again, and that would just be retreading.

I feel like the previous two films did well enough, but they could leave it there, and maybe they should.

The Mini-Pufts made me cringe a little. It was such overt nostalgia bait, meant to rub the bellies of OG fans and make us feel warm and fuzzy.

Teaser for The Electric State, the next Russo Brothers movie (before they go back to Marvel).  Scored by Alan Silvestri (the film, not this teaser)

So there's a production company called 87North, who is behind movies like John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Nobody, Kate, Bullet Train, Violent Night, and The Fall Guy.

Well, their next action flick is called ‘With Love’, drops February 7th 2025, and stars Ke Huy Quan!

The film has been retitled to Love Hurts and now has a trailer

Looks fun. Similar premise to Nobody, probably unsurprisingly.

Yeah, it's a bummer - that's why I'm hoping things change here!

Search your feelings, Marian, first reactions are often fanboy hyperbole.

I've been looking forward to it before the first reactions (I haven't even read the article, actually). And I liked The Northman for what it is, so I've had no reason to lose my faith in Eggers so far.

Is The Northman your favorite Eggers movie?

No. Although I've watched all three that I've seen (i.e. Witch, Lighthouse, and Northman) only once, and especially The Lighthouse is fascinating but not exactly easy to judge after just one viewing.

From Eggers I've seen The Witch, which was decent but overrated. I definetly don't think it's a new horror masterpiece or whatever, at least for me.

I think I tried to see The Lighthouse like 4 or 5 times but every time I end up falling asleep in the middle of the movie and then waking up by the end lol.

Never seen The Northman though.

That all said, Nosferatu really does look great and hopefully it will deliver.

One of the top three most anticipated films of the year in my book. I must try to rewatch Murnau's before it.

I just saw that a couple of weeks ago, live with Christopher Young's new score. It does some remarkable things, to be sure, but I don't think it holds up as well, narratively, as e.g. Lang's Nibelungen or Metropolis.

It's underrated!

In fairness, I probably felt it was overrated the first time I saw it. It has gotten dramatically better with subsequent viewings.

Nibelungen

That's the most anticipated film of 1924 in my book. And, along with Murnau's Faust, of its decade. I just got round to Dr. Mabuse the Gambler a few months ago.

Is it that disliked?  I loved it. The mood was incredible, the settigs looked highly realistic, and I didn't know what to expect or which way it was going to go. Not a big fan of the second part of The Lighthouse (a movie which to me feels too much based on one of my favorite movies The Servant) and I didn't like The Northman (give me Valhalla Rising every day of the week!)

Not at all; it’s very highly rated! Still underrated, though...

Hadn’t thought of that before, but I see the similarity now that you mention it. The Servant is even better, true enough, but I still think The Lighthouse is brilliant.

I don’t know the latter, but The Northman is another one which has improved with rewatches for me. It still feels somewhat studio-constrained, though; I prefer free-range Eggers.
